Rogers and CIBC offer NFC based payments using BlackBerry.

    My understanding is this:
-> CIBC app simply virtualizes your credit card. Sort of stores a soft-copy of your credit card.
-> When you want to make a payment, you simply open the app and the app, tap your phone to a NFC reader, and the CIBC app transmits credit-card information to NFC reader.

NFC reader = credit card processing machines that are enabled with Master Card PayPass, Visa PayWave etc.

What's the point of NFC enabled SIM Card here? Why is it needed/required? Given that, BlackBerry Bold 9900 ALREADY has NFC transmitter/receiver in built.

    Anybody aware of technical details?

The NFC enabled SIM card actually stores your credit card information on it. Has little to do with the app. The app is the vector used to provide the terminal with your information.

Do all NFC payment methods require an NFC enabled SIM? No. Roger's Suretap does. When Google first rolled out their Wallet app, some enterprising fellows managed to bypass several security features because of the way Google managed the user's cc info and passwords. This was only possible on rooted devices. I guess that was part of the reason Rogers decided to go one step further and add another layer of security.

Thanks very much! I am told that other Canadian carriers are also working on bringing NFC enabled sim cards as well in next few months.

Could someone elaborate on this? What happened exactly?
