    My curve keeps trying to boot instead of charge, red light will come on for about 10 seconds, then the boot bar comes up with only slight progress, sits there for a while, red light comes on again. And so on and so on . . .

    It has been sitting in a drawer for about a year.

    If the battery wasn't charged much (~40%) before you put it in the drawer, I would plug this phone into a charger, let it sit for a couple of hours. Then try starting it up.
