Waiting for BB10. IMO RIM offers no full touchscreen devices that are competitive to the other high end devices on the market. Once BB10 comes out, that should be a different story.

No more obsolete than BB6 was when BB7 dropped, and there are still a LOT of BB6 and BB5 devices out there pulling duty quite reliably. Unless there's something going on that I don't know about and BB7 will suddenly stop working.
I'm pretty sure he means that he wants a device that will be able to run BB10, and from what we have been told, nothing RIM has out right now (PB excluded) will be able to do this.

I'm also pretty sure he realizes the devices wont stop working, thats not the point. Buying a BB7 device to be stuck on BB7 and never get any upgrades out of the realm of BB7 (just like BB6 devices) is not a good thing for the market to know. Especially when they see devices like the 3GS on the latest version of iOS (stripped down but still new features) and many high end Android devices that will be getting ICS that shipped with Gingerbread.

BB10 is the future. OS7 was dead before it released (in terms of upgradability to future OSs like BB10). That doesn't mean they are bad devices, but that is something a lot of people think about when making a purchase, especially if they do research before hand.

So the OS7 devices are supposedly not selling well. So my question to the CB citizens is: have you upgraded yet? If not, what's stopping you?
    1. The 9900/9930 isnt worth $600 for an out of contract purchase.
    2. The 9900/9930 isnt worth signing a two-year contract for.
    3. App support for OS7 is crap. See the thread on MLB's At Bat app as a perfect example.

I'm ususally a bit behind the curve (pun intended) when it comes to technology. This is because I'm slow to get rid of anything that works and works well. I just went to OS 6 in June of last year, a few months before OS 7 came out. I couldn't see waiting for OS 7 as a Bold 9650 on OS 6 was already a major jump up from my Curve 8330m. The only additional feature I was looking for over and above what my 8330m already had was the "international" (SIM card) capability the Sprint 9650 offered. I got a whole lot more: terrific keyboard, OS 6, faster loading of my pictures and faster performance in general. Could I even handle any more than that, lol?

Oh, and I also got a great price on the upgrade: $80.00 for the 9650. I waited forever to make the move, as I was unwilling to ditch a perfectly good 8330m for a $200.00 upgrade.

9700 still works well and I buy all my phones used and the 9900 hasn't come down to what I am willing to pay. I want a Tmobile branded one in excellent condition for around 350.
Of course, the day after i post this i find a perfect condition used 9900 with 3g bands of T-mobile unlocked on ebay and win it for $375 shipped.

I guess i just upgraded to OS 7. In two weeks i'll actually have it since it will be shipped to my US address and then sent over here to the Czech Republic.

Upgrade. I would love to try the 9850. I have a 9800 torch and it is a great phone. I tried the 9850 at the store and it was sweet, but bought a PlayBook in December so tough to justify when my phone works great.

Kinda waiting for decent themes and the apps that I need to make it to OS 7. Decided I might upgrade in a couple weeks from 9700 OS5 to 9900 OS 7. The 9700 has been acting up a bit and I really like to have the 9900. After getting a playbook, I think I would be tempted by the BB10 devices but I know I need a keyboard so I am willing to wait until one. So I will settle for the 9900 for two years.

    RIM gave me a 9900. I didn't have a choice.

    Used to have a 9800.

But OS7 is nothing spectacular so waiting for BB10.

Definitely try it out ... the 9900's keyboard is larger than the 9700's. A lot of people (including myself) love it, but some people do prefer smaller size of, say, the 93** series Curves, another option you may also consider while waiting for the BB10's.

As for BB7 vs. BB6, while it may not look dramatically different, there are significant improvements under the hood in addition to new features. First and foremost is the touch screen, which I find extremely useful even with the keyboard and trackpad. You will find display transitions very smooth and responsive, and the browser will be a completely different experience from what you're used to.
