Do a search, plenty of info on this.
Either PBOS 1 and 2 were 8 and 9 or 10 is an abbreviation for 10,000 (after the 9900 series). Those are my guesses... Or RIM's not very good at counting.
EDIT: Then, there's also the possibility that changed it from BBX to BB10 because X is the roman numeral for 10.
because it was going to be called bbx and they got sued and couldn't use the name, so they decided since the OS was just so futuristic they would skip version numbers. that's what the huge delay is all about, they had to make bbos 8, with killer features, then bbos 9 with magical features, then combine everything into an operating system that is the technological achievement equatable to jesus christ riding a unicorn down a candy mountain shooting iphones and androids with it's laser eyes.
The current device iterations are 9xxx models. The next logical progression is 10.
hmmm

name calling? you just called someone with 16,000 more posts than you a fool. it was also legitimate advice seeing as how i found dozens of threads in 5 seconds discussing it.
Because 7 ate 9...
