For the record, Apple was the third highest corporate taxpayer last year, after Exxon and Chevron. A tax bill of $14,000,000,000, and an effective rate of 25%. According to Forbes.

And no, Apple should not buy Blackberry. It would be terrible for people who value what Blackberry has, does, and can offer, and it would give Apple nothing they want.

Apple makes so much money, buying BlackBerry would just be a rounding error on their financial statements.

If BES was for sale by itself BB would have plenty of buyers. Its all the other parts that aren't as palatable.
You're either delusional or obtuse in thinking the other parts are not palpable.

    * NOC = the single greatest value of BlackBerry followed closely by the WNX Engineering team.
    * QNX all endeavors including M2M/IoT.
*BES and BB10 devices and services.

Not a correct say to rebuff an argument, it is a fact that companies like apple contribute to the deficit by off shoring funds and saving taxes. No reason to disregard reality.

Apple doesn't buy a company because it's cheap. They buy it because it's successful.

Apple didn't buy BlackBerry because it believed BlackBerry was about to die. They would have come in hard afterwards to buy components of the business for pennies and with virtually no limitations. Prior to death the purchase would have been a lot harder regulatory wise. However, now that BlackBerry is showing life, it could prove to be a huge over site for Apple. Governments are going to give BlackBerry a huge look due to the NSA over Apple and Google/Android.

Apple the company not their fans have publicly denounced BlackBerry in the past, present and future. Wouldn't look to good if they bought what they poke fun at.

First, the US government has collected a record high tax receipts last year and continues to do so this year. However, it is still spending way over that amount.

Second, the US has the highest corporate tax rate of the developed nations. Even John F Kennedy knew that if you lower tax rates, you get more people paying taxes and get more tax receipts.

Third, the US government doesn't make the economy go by taxing. They can, however, stall the economy by excess taxes and regulations.

Fourth, no business ever pays taxes or levies. Any cost are handed down to the customer through higher costs for products and services or by reducing quality/quantity of products and services.

Hopefully BlackBerry has a full recovery and does better.

Thankfully blackberry has not lost its focus on security.

Whatever opinions are about Apple buying BlackBerry, it would be a bad idea, not for Apple, but for those who utilize BlackBerry for the security it provides.

Not if they simply take the security and ran with it. If anything, they can say "the work of BlackBerry and the play of iOS, finally together for the ultimate work and play", the DoD and all that would be all over that thing

You obviously don't know anything about open source software.

Windows is proprietary software, so why are people still able to exploit it?
Ios has more security holes than android. According to you that shouldn't be the case.

It's not about the openness of the software. It's all about the software design and development process. Being open usually makes software more secure since the developers in the community can find hidden holes and propose fixes.

Show me your proof about IOS, you always hear about malware on Android, and Google Play automated approval system for apps allows malicious apps to get through. Obviously they catch a lot of them, but the "hole" is there.

Windows is full of "security holes" because almost every single person that use a computer use Windows. Hackers are in for the money, not to prove that something is secure or not. Mac OS and Linux have so little market share that is meaningless to try to gain something from them.

And Open Source is inherently insecure because its openness, if you really believe otherwise you're delusional. And before you say that I'm just a fanboy or a sheep, I use both a BlackBerry and an Android. The only reason I bought the android one was because it was cheaper.

    Could Apple buy Blackberry? Yes.
Should they buy Blackberry? Depends on whether they feel they need the technology Blackberry has.
Why didn't they buy Blackberry a year ago? Because Blackberry was losing money, and nobody was certain that they could turn it around. If Blackberry failed, then Apple could have gone in and bought only the parts it wanted for pennies on the dollar.
Besides, Apple, Google, and Microsoft aren't charities. For them to invest in squiring another business, it needs to have sound fundamentals, or at least mesh well with what they are hoping to achieve.
My belief is that Blackberry was a lot closer to shutting the doors that a lot of us realize.
Good job, John Chen for the job this far.

Not sure why you are posting old news?

Secondly Apple wouldn't be able to buy BlackBerry as they would have to pay tax on sale, something Apple hasn't paid in years because all their money is store in offshore accounts. The US economy wouldn't be in such bad shape if companies like Apple paid regular corporate tax instead of moving their money outside of the US.
They aren't moving money from the US offshore, it's the profit they've made selling devices made offshore and sold offshore that they aren't moving into the US. Apple pays it's taxes on the money they make selling their products in the US.

They also pay taxes locally in whatever countries they made the money in.

At least Apple isn't thinking of merging with an offshore company to "relocate".
