OK, Figure,....for me, the lack of keyboard sucks.

And....email management on Android does not compare to BB. .
You admitted that you don't own or want to own an Android device but freely give your opinion on how Android email management doesn't compare to BB?

Speak from experience (like the many that have had the opportunity to own devices from all platforms) before you give misinformation or a biased opinion on an device or OS you absolutely know nothing about or have no experience with.

It has become a battle ground because those users who no longer like their blackberrys DIDN'T MOVE ON, go to the other forums and your not going to find lots of Android users who were former iPhone users hanging out on the TiPb, or vise versa, this community is the most welcoming of the communities and as such lets the people who want to just poke out one liners continue to do so, the internet will always have people hide behind a screen name and flame away.

I am dissatisfied with RIM, and am vocal about the things I want to see changed, but I don't go telling people they are wrong or ignorant for liking RIM, RIM is my ONLY solution, because form factor matters more than specs. that is something many Android users on this forum refuse to accept.

BB users are the largest group of smartphone users so clearly they have the most users to defect to other brands, and those consumers who picked up BB's 2-4 years ago are the early adopter people, who certainly would be quick to move to the next hot thing, they might be back they might not.
Believe me, I am looking forward to moving on. But the phone I'm getting isn't released until April or so. Until then I like reading the news and debates here. I'm still helping BlackBerry users and now I'm into reading the Android forums here.

But it's obvious many BlackBerry users here are too defensive about RIM and just like to call anyone who wants to try any phone other than a BlackBerry a troll. I think I've been called a troll three times so far. Go figure. I've never attacked any user personally on here. I'm quietly leaving CrackBerry because of this, slowly. When I get my Bionic I won't be back (unless I hate it and return for the Storm 3).

I just wish folks wouldn't resort to name calling, whether personally or in general. It's depressing.

"But simply, based on the observation of what others have to do...."

    This statement screams ignorance.

Let's say you observe someone shooting a firearm....do you then know whether it's good or not? Do you then know how to operate it efficiently?

Lets be more practical....let's say you observe a doctor treating a patient....do you know whether the doctor is doing a good job or not? Do you then know how to treat a patient?

Let's be even more practical.....lets say you observe someone driving a car with a manual gear box...do you know whether or not the car is good? Do you then know how to operate it efficiently?

    The point is...

    Doing something > observing something

Experiencing something for yourself > reading about someone elses experience.

You also said "to communicate at half the efficiency of a BB"

How exactly are you measuring efficiency? Comparing their messaging abilities to that of your own? You know kid that won some award for being the fastest texter in the world? Compared to him your efficiency blows....and if memory serves he was using a feature phone...

If a BB does what "you want" how "you want it done" then that's fantastic and I'm actually happy for you...and I'm being sincere. But does that in anyway make BB a better phone than any other phone. Of course not.

Sooo, what you're more or less saying is how do you know you're not gay unless you try it? Lol

There's so much information on the net these days, you just have to spend some time looking for it.

You can't possibly try every car, tv, mobile platform or even just Android out there, there's just so many of them now.

    One word: research

QB you have to at least admit if nothing else JD has a very valid point. This is the reason that when I comment on Android I make it known I don't own one and am merely making observations on what others I trust know because they DO own one and are qualified to do a side by side comparrison.

Yup, I've never stated that I own an Android device. I've used it for short times and I hated it.

Now....what would compel me to buy something I don't like when I use it for a finite period of time, especially when I have a team whose decisions I respect as opposed to any number of unknown people on an internet forum?

Tell me.....do you think that if you drive a lot for work and have a very small parking garage it would be reasonable to try out a Hummer just because some people on a forum said they love it? Or do you study the car, research the actual implications of owning it and then make a decision?

Why should I purchase a device with a platform that I did not like when I briefly tried it out and after having people who work for me conduct analysis on it for upper management?

This insistence that everyone must LOVE Android is just baffling.

I made the statements about where I work because privacy is an issue with Google. It simply is. And the research conducted by the my tech people confirmed the fact that it is a vulnerable OS. It simply is.
You do not have to use Google with Android. So privacy should not be an issue then.

Why so certain that the platform is perfect for everyone? As you are fond of saying, Android is not for everyone. It's not for me. I want the device to be an afterthought to my day, not a significant component of it. It's a tool, not a relationship.
I never said it was perfect. The second sentence in this quote says I said Android is not for everyone. It is not like a sexual attraction. These are devices you have to learn to use.

I never said Android was for you. All I was asking was why you made the statement that Android sucks at messaging as a general statement, when it is just you who it sucks for (I'm sure others too, but as a whole, it does not suck and like I said there are plenty of ways you can make it similar to a BB).

And no, I will not buy a device to try it out unless it interests me. Why would I put myself through that nuisance? I observe others, hear from others and if it interests me, I buy it for myself.
We are different. I do not listen to other peoples opinions (though I do respect them and take them into consideration) and use that to base my interest. I like to experience things for myself, and not through word of mouth. You make it sound like trying an Android device would be torture. Didn't you have to go through a BB learning curve as well? What about when Windows first came out? It is no different than anything else.

My friend thinks the restaurant down the street is horrible. If I listened to him, I would have never went there to eat and realize that I actually like the food.

And by the way, read what what you quoted from me. I clearly said that the platform is not for me. You choose what you want and use it in good health. I don't need to buy it also. By that reasoning, only after I buy a car or a house I can decide whether I like it or not? No - you do prelim work. My prelim is to use others' experiences and make my own observation.
I did read what I quoted. You said messaging on Android sucks. You didn't say it sucks for what you need it to do, you just said it plain sucks in general, and based it off of peoples opinions and not your own.

Buying a car is TOTALLY different than buying a smartphone. There is no learning curve with a car (assuming you know how to drive multiple types of transmission). You look at the features, see if it has what you want, test drive it and then make your decision. With a smartphone, you can do your research, see if it has the features you want, and then you HAVE to buy it to test drive it. But you have 30 days to return it and get your money back.

I respect your opinion and I know you chose what you want based on your needs. Throwing out statements about a platform you have never extensively used is just a little annoying. I'm sure if I came on here screaming false information about BB I would get flamed to no end. I just do not like it when false information is spread about ANY platform. Especially when a lot of people read these threads and actually do take some peoples opinions on here as 100% truth. I mean, you see all these threads where people ask which device they should buy based off of other peoples opinions, and then they go buy it just because forum members said so. It happens daily.

Ok, I have a question for the Android folks. How are you basing your statements about Androids security? Its not like in the last 14 months the system has a track record to fall back on. I have an I.T. department much like QbnKilt and they wont touch an Android system either.

It seems that there is an air of superiority with the Android folks but I fail to see how that attitude is justified by anything other than opinions. If you are going to call out someone for their lack of knowledge, dont do it from a glass house. Do it from a justified platform.

Had I misrepresented at any point and stated that I had ever owned an Android device I would tend to agree. However, I have always said that I do not own an Android powered device. Those individuals whose expertise I do trust and whom I have hired, i.e., my technical leads, conducted a study. My team in fact did side by side comparisons as part of that research - note, research - for a formal presentation.

My observations of the research my team conducted as a possibility of integrating Android devices to a very controlled environment outside the firewall assisted me in making an *informed empirical decision.*

And....plenty of friends and family members whose devices are much too much of a relationship for my taste.

No prob. Two of my tech specialists own iPhones. Three own Android. We are always comparing. So....I see them having to use their devices all the time. The only one that I would consider right now aside from BB are W7 but I dislike those awful tiles and iOS but their limited multitasking is annoying. However, I am probably getting an iPhone 5...I had intended to get an iPhone 4 and then learned the multitasking solution was really limited.

How long did you spend with Android? I didn't like it as first as well, but then I used if for a week and fully learned how to use everything and then loved it. I hated BBOS at first as well. I was use to WM.

I understand your point. Software just requires some time to use to get a clear picture and to see if you really like it. It is not like eating one potato and being done with it.

A country is not an item that you can touch, see, manipulate, and form decisions based on empirical evidence.

Had I never touched an Android device, had I not had access to a presentation, had I not had friends and family whose experiences I could draw upon to base my decision as to whether I find that the platform sucks, then yah....it would have been ignorant.

By the way, Argentina and Iceland are lovely.

And no, I don't own anything Android because based on all the experience I've had and delienated above, for me, the platform sucks.

At the end of that five years are you now qualified to lead military operations in the middle east theatre?

Research can only take you so far.
