Well both of their leaders were killed back to back. When Lucas brings seven and eight out of his desk drawer(rumor that he wrote all 8 at once) then we will see what happens to the empire

The reason the empire quite is the same reason Mordor came to defeat. Sauron controlled his forces and his will was imposed upon his underlings. In much the same way, without the Dark Lord's control, the Empire's forces could not adapt and fight effectively; they did not have the will.
Took my kids to see Star Wars when it came out....I and my daughters fell asleep mid-stream and still don't have a clue of what it's about. Had to be woken up by the base theater folks who told us the theater was closing.
