It is said that BlackBerry software are used around the world, yet the name BlackBerry is very rare, does this means that products like cars running BlackBerry software don't necessarily have the BlackBerry trademark name attached to it somewhere??

Your car is made up of parts from multiple manufacturers yet it on has one name on it. Same with computers (exception maybe the Intel sticker for example). Can't imagine why it would be different for anything using BlackBerry software except for phones.

I know where you are going with this. In my Lincoln, I have a Microsoft Sync badge near the infotainment stack. Good advertising for Microsoft. BlackBerry/QNX should do the same.

Isn’t BlackBerry/QNX more of the kind of technology found underneath or behind the branded technology? Like virtual nuts and bolts in a software ecosystem?

Keep in mind some cars don't have e.blackberry qnx but the Harmon qnx when it was open source

Yes, same here on mine. I also wonder why you don't see a "QNX" badge on vehicles equipped. I would guess it's due to the actual 'interface' being used. My Lincoln MKS also has the noise cancelation and the THX certified sound system. There's also a badge for the THX on top of the stack, with the Microsoft SYNC badge down below near the cup holders.

I'm not sure if Lincoln uses QNX for the noise cancelation or integration of the systems. That's probably why we see no QNX badge though as I believe that software just manages the systems, not the actual interface used in the vehicle. Just my guess though.

Pretty much. You don't see it because the auto manus want you to see their branding. That way they can change out systems as time moves on and maintain their branding. Just like Ford SYNC when they ditched Windows for QNX, only people in know or who went looking for the change would notice it, while everyday users just thought 'Oh cool.. new Ford SYNC version'

It's also just not how the licensing works. BlackBerry hands off the core components to the auto manus and then they put their layers and customizations on top of it, they're essentially an ODM. Akin to how say HTC for years built smartphones for everyone else before they ever came out with their own HTC branded device.

Accurate guess for the most part.

thanks Bla1ze. I just did a search, Ford/Lincoln Sync 2 was all Microsoft as far as I can tell. starting at the middle of 2014 with Sync 3 was QNX with Texas Instrument hardware. I'm sure if someone who has a Sync 3 system went into the menus to find the software version, it may mention QNX / BlackBerry, but not really sure.

I've been thinking all day about this. There's a little metal placard in my car that states "SYNC powered by Microsoft" . Microsoft provides the 'software' that runs Sync 2. BlackBerry QNX is the 'software' now running Sync 3. Why didn't BlackBerry put the same type of placard in the vehicles running Sync 3? It could have been something as simple as "SYNC powered by QNX ' followed by the iconic BlackBerry symbol. I kind of agree with the op. After really looking at what the placard states in my car, why wouldn't BlackBerry want that same recognition also? I'll try to attach a picture. Where is the BlackBerry trademark name?-img_20190611_2116460.jpg

You say that as if they have the option to. As I mentioned in the earlier post, it's largely not a part of their agreements. Should they be? Probably. Does BlackBerry really care as long as they continue to use QNX and is it really worth fighting for? Probably not. If they cared, I'm sure we would have seen it SOMEWHERE by now.

Point taken. Really didn't think of it in that manner. Guess you have to know when to fight your battles, and they may not have wanted to push the issue. Thanks for the quick response!

The rolled out QNX SYNC3 in 2016 with the Ford Escape and Fiesta but yeah, they were showing it off before that. - https://crackberry.com/qnx-powered-s...ape-and-fiesta

yes, my time line wasn't complete. they signed the agreements in December of 2014. at least that's what the 2 articles stated. and It didn't really go into detail on when it actually shows up in the vehicles. I know the 2017 Lincolns did have the Sync 3. you're probably right on it appearing sooner though, as I really don't know. I've always rooted for BlackBerry as my father was born and raised in Lac Baker in New Brunswick. I still have many relatives up there. we still have land on Lac Caron, which is my family. my grandfather sold off most of his farm years ago, but most of my family still own homes around that lake. let's just hope BlackBerry keeps up the good work and we keep getting keyboard phones to play with!
