it's not. BIS will still be around for legacy devices until they EOL them.

Have heard anywhere from two to five years from now, in regarding to shutting down BIS. But that's gleaned from reading multiple forum posts on different threads.

It has to be more than 2 years, they still sell them on 2 years contracts today so that's the absolute minimum.

They still sell them on 3 year contracts here in Canada, so we're probably looking at over 3 years.

BlackBerry actually sells the devices at a cost to the carrier, they in turn sell them based on a contract. BB gets paid up front.

Yes but they have an obligation of service and warranty.

Manufactures warranty is 1 year. Granted that BIS will still be around for a while, till majority have left the pre 10 platform. Once enough have BB can at their discretion terminate the BIS completely.

Should see support for a few years after the last BIS Device is sold. Common practice for tech companies.

Warranty us for the duration of the contract here, I'm not sure about other countries.

Canada and US have 1 year manufacture warranties.

I will stop now as I think I may have accidentally hijacked the thread and this is not my intent.

I think it's fair to say we don't need to worry until all the legacy devices are pulled off the shelves.

I would think as long as there is a serious market still using BBOS devices, BIS will continue to be around.

The only way it will be dropped sooner is if all 76 million subscribers switch to BB10 right away.

OP BIS will likely be around after your 9900 ceases to function.

This does not matter. No more BIS as Vodafone CZ service from 2th September. Period.

BB10 devices will work after this date, but BB OS 4,5,6,7 - no.

[QUOTE=dacur;83603]Yeah, you get what you pay for with Verizon. Good service and coverage.

I have the Pearl and got used to the SureType in no time. Now I love it. Since it does predict what you are typing, you will be able to type faster. You have to use it for a while, though, so it can learn what words you use most. It's really awesome.

My brother has the 8830 and it looks like a BRICK next to my Pearl! The Pearl fits into my pocket, no problem. Plus it has the camera, which is very nice. You may want one once you're in college. They're fun to have, no doubt.

I had the enV and hated it. I guess if you are strictly texting it's fine. But BBs do so much more, you can't even compare the two.

Sorry....Playbook having one of its moments...quoted wrong post.
