The BBM spam is one of the reasons I am back on BB10. The second I have to go back to android, I am going to use sms and nothing else. Dammed adds are bloody everywhere else, I don't want them in my messaging app.

Yeah I disabled BBM on our DTEK50 for this very reason. I don't even have the app on my S9. LOVE IT on BB10 and my wife and used it exclusively. On our Samsung I/we use SMS/MMS as I do with pretty much all my contacts. My best friend moved to Germany for family reasons (former BlackBerry user- now Apple) and we use WhatsApp. There are no ads in WhatsApp.

Strange. I thought EMTEK took care of the Android emulator abusing indonesians generating invite pin spam.

Funnily, EMtek themselves send out broadcasts and spam users lol. Oh and not to forget ads in chats and feeds by Google. Steaming pile of ads, the BBM app has become.

BBM sucks on Android now. it's a shame there isn't an option to just pay for no ads ? That is usually the route apps have gone

Because BlackBerry has nothing to do with consumer BBM on Android and iOS. It's an Emtek product.

It would be naive to say there are no conditions in the licensing. Emtek doesn't care because it's not a condition.

BlackBerry isn't "getting any money from you".

The condition is something like: "please take BBM from us. Thanks."

I know it's a more of a hand off relationship but I'm generating Emtek money by their monetised features and ads and they're giving Blackberry money, so their certainly is overlap in their interests. Emtek is not going to be interested in a product that no one uses and they only make money when people uses the product.

I'm sure Blackberry wants certain standards kept with BBM and they're not interested in it turning into a porn portal or something, but perhaps saying no ads for the blackberry branded phones might cause Emtek to turn away... but I doubt that. It's an indonesian company and they have pushed a lot of indonesian services that I'm sure they harvest money from so even with the ads turned off their still is sources of revenue.

I get Emtek wants to make money but we just can't say Blackberry has no power with BBM anymore.... Blackberry for example could wave licensing fees for Blackberry branded phones in the condition that it's is ad free.

BB wants to keep Emtek happy, not you. The user base for the millions of BBM users is Emtek region of Indonesia and surrounding Asian countries. BB depends on supporting Emtek and it’s user model for licensing revenue. Your BBAndroid licensed device and BBM licensed messenger don’t really overlap either licensing company.

That’s Emtek’s business to worry about. At this point, outside Indonesia, probably not too concerned.

I happen to be in Indonesia. But I really don't see how that matters. Consumer BBM is Emtek regardless where you live.

Emtek or no emtek, an android emulator is enough to generate pin spam being one major drawback of a pin system and the second one being ads and broadcasts sent by google and emtek themselves to irritate all but the hormonal teenagers in Indonesia/Middle east, who take it in their stride.

BBM was preinstalled on my BBMo device. there definitely is a relationship. Perhaps it's the business of TCL and Emtek to work out but to say there is no connection or no overlap is simple not true.

The overlap you’re referring to is the deal agreed to. Since BB licensed both out to others, things are what they are. What revenue does Emtek receive from your purchase of BBMo/TCL devices? Zero, Nada, Zip and 0.......

Emtek's gain is the app is on the device. Had it not been preinstalled the chances of me downloading it decreases. Likewise since it is preinstalled the chances of it being used (and generating Emtek revenue) increases.

It's not complicated stuff. Emtek of course prefers BBMo devices because BBM is preinstalled and if BBMo wins Emtek wins. They like that I carry and use a BBMo device.

So between 1000 pixels and 1000 BBMo devices which generates more revenue for Emtek? It of course is BBMo and that works with a 1000 of any other branded phone. Emtek wants to keep BBMo customers happy because it's their bread and butter and without them their revenue supply is significantly cut down.

Instead, Emtek's strategy seems to syphoning as much revenue from BBMo devices as possible with no special breaks. BBM is now bloatware.

Sure. But your whole thread started out claiming that either unrelated company owes you something because of old business model that doesn’t exist anymore. I’m still waiting for you to explain that one.

Your statement was that BB LTD owes its customers and I agree. It’s customers are BBMo/TCL and Emtek. I’m still not understanding why you think BB LTD owes you anything.
