Should Legacy users be given an upgrade?
Should the unsold units be sold at cost?

I thought Umi had a great idea on the recent podcast where he suggested that they can give out Z10 hardware to enterprise customers that sign up to run BES10

Sell @ $50. Over cost to people who buy another BlackBerry 10 phone and new customers and upgrade. Don't write them off, get them in the people's hands.

Take them down to the US and fire sale them at colleges for 100 clams a piece. Expose people to 10.2.

I am a big fan of Umi, but I don't think we can credit this as an original idea. Another poster mentioned in another thread that his company was offered Z10s for free, so I think it is already happening. Taking the inventory hit was the first and necessary step to giving them away.

Sell them on the shopping channel, that way they can demonstrate how good they are.

Personally, I think they should do two things:

1: mark the price of existing stock down for carriers so that they can get inventory moving. The Z10 would probably move faster here in Canada if it was priced a touch lower.

2: get it in the hands of the people who sell the hardware. Honestly, the sales reps for the carriers would probably recommend it a touch more if they knew how powerful it was even with the existing app gap (which I would like to think is slowly closing little by little). A great example is the game Candy Crush. No app exists for Candy Crush itself on BB10, however I can actually go play it via the web browser and it works just as well.

    Just my two cents worth.

    No, seriously.
They should make a : "buy one, get the second one for free" sale.

Like this they can hide the fact of having a firesale a bit and it's a pretty good bait for a certain type of consumer, so it'll be easier to get more phones into people's hands.

Preload them with 10.2 MR. With that they can sell them for 50$ on the cost to make them. They could also sell them cheaper for kids going off to college and free to those who sign up to BES10.

They should have sold the Z10 cheap off contract from day one. They needed a user base more than profit off the device. They should have gone through channels other than the carriers as well. Imagine launching on woot for the us at 250 a phone for example. Traditional methods of sell through were not going to work especially with a number of people currently in contract at time of the launch.

I like the idea of heavy discounting to any company that signs up for bes 10. That would get thousands of phones out.

Thing is though corporate adoption won't save the phone, they need to get those legacy phones off the street and their user base excited again, so they need to start doing major deals with carriers.

Double your trade in right at the store type of stuff. Example if you were getting $100 for your 9900 they will add another $100 on top if you get a Z10.

If I were getting 150 for an S3(current trade in at my carrier) they give you another $150. Upto $200.

I don't think the carriers paid for the inventory. If you read the press release, it sounds like bbry was carrying the cost.

It is win win for both BB and customers. Give z10, q10s free to enterprise customers when they activate/purchase bes10 license for $100/year. that increases marketshare, more apps, customers also buy next models

They should build a fort with them.

But I think they will end up as incentives to get enterprise customers using BES10.

I just won a Q10 in the "Keys To The City" promotion that I thought ended last month. I got a BBM from one of those PINs that I never deleted from my list... so maybe they're using some of the stock for giveaways?

The more people who have BlackBerry 10 phones, the better.

Give them away. Then people with a free BB can ask "where are the apps"?

Since BlackBerry is fair to its consumers, sorry I meant prosumers, handling and processing will only ad another 50% of the total price.

These prices are a bit extreme....
The 10 pence for the 9720 are still too damn high though.
