    Hi,

My other half is looking for a new phone - she's had a 9700 that is coming to the end of its life. It's been ok but she's sick of battery pulls and the need to reset when there is an app update (what's all that about?). She's looking at either a WP7 (she really likes my lumia 800) or an iphone (which again she's used and likes), android is a non-starter because it's too chaotic.

We are going to have a look this morning and while I know a lot about the other platforms, I must confess I know very little about Blackberries as devices, they all look the same to me. What is the current best Blackberry (we are in the UK) that we should look at to compare to the lumia and the iphone ?

You have 2 Options to really look at

The BlackBerry Bold 9900 and the BlackBerry Bold 9790,
They share specs, but are different sizes, and build materials

I own both, I suspect the 9790 would cost about 50 quid less than the 9900, and the 9790 does scratch easier than the 9900 does.

IF she liked her Bold 9700, she should pick up the 9790, and 9900 and try them both out in her hand, they have so much more to offer than the 9700 did, and I've done 1 battery pull this month on my 9790.

Compare the 9900 to the Lumia. After you purchase the Lumia let us know how amazing of a phone it really is.

    I have the 9810, it's a great product - the 9810 not the 9800.

    It's a 3G+ phone that runs on a 4G network.

So far I didn't have to pull the battery, and reboot after app updates is fast (most of the time)

    Web browsing is great.

    Great camera.

    Media player is very good.

The phone can show-up as a folder on a computer and you can simply drag and drop files to your phone.

It has all the great BB shortcuts and customization options.

Screen quality is great. ppi = 253

    The phone has wireless hotspot.

Call quality and reception is great.

    Very snappy performance.

I like the physical keyboard. The keys are flatter than the 9800's keyboard and typing is better.

You can bridge the phone to a playbook. You'll get the wonderful remote feature.

The phone is not too big and not too small and feels like quality in the hand.

I already know what an amazing phone the lumia is as I own one!

Because she already has a blackberry, we just wanted to see if they currently put out anything to compare to it before she made the jump one way or the other.

Were there any things that she liked about her Blackberry? The reset thing still happens after app uploads, but I rarely have to do battery pulls(usually my fault).

If she liked the UI, wanted a touchscreen phone, doesn't need all the apps, but wants something with good performance and a great screen then her best bet from Blackberry is the Torch 9860. Its the most like an iPhone and honestly, its kept me from switching.

Plus it takes better pics than the 9900.

If she still wants the keyboard the 9900 is a good option.

I'll em.. recommend it to her. Interesting thing to note - the sales rep in Carphone warehouse said to avoid blackberries because "they were going out of business", I guess he gets a better commission from a iphone or a windows phone?

Hey your wife should go for the bold 9900, i just got it and to tell you the truth i love it, its fast looks great, and it'll also help RIM out.
Also DONT get the lumia 800 because the lumia 900 is coming out April 8th so i think if she wants that WP7 wait a week or two, so she can have the latest and Greatest.
    GOOD LUCK

The newest line or BB7 devices really are double what they use to be while the OS is still pretty much the same. The browser is definently faster and even over 3G from my experiences. The hardware really is what really dumbed down the previous BBs. Like everyone said look into the 99XX(my top choice), 9790, or 9810.

Thanks but she doesn't want a phone that big and we in the UK aren't getting it until may.
