Hey CrackBerry, happy Passport owner here. I recently bought out my Z10 contract for $190 and got a 2 year plan with Telus for $90/month with unlimited voice, sms, caller ID but only 2gigs of data. The PassPort cost $199 so this whole switch over ended up with a cost of about $400. However now looking back, the fact that I was buying out my phone contract and essentially free to walk over to any wireless carrier that would offer me a good deal, makes me think I could have bargained for a much better deal. In fact I know so, and to many here I probably look like a fool lol. Perhaps I could have received more data, or maybe instead of paying $90/month I would pay $70. This list goes on.

Reading around on CrackBerry I see people touting the fact they have 6 gigs of data but only pay $50/month for example. I know that there are many on these forums who are much better negotiators than I am or are more knowledgeable when it comes to this stuff. So I guess this will be good to know for the next time BB releases their next device, but what is the best way to get a good phone plan? How do you negotiate with carriers and what is "ACTUALLY" the best they can do?

    $55

    200 daytime minutes
    Eve/weekends @ 6pm
    Caller id
    Voice mail 3
    6GB data

It was a promo they had a few years ago and I will keep it as long as I keep buying phones off kijiji/crackberry. If I ever buy a subsidized phone from Telus I will lose the data and pay alot more. So I will just keep bringing my own phones and keep my data. Always always always talk to the loyalty and retention department and be a nice, reasonable person is the way I have gotten my best deals with them.

Australia. So my input won't help you much.

Optus "$2 days", the original plan on 3G+ with unlimited data though. No longer available. Now it's up to 500MB daily, if you go over you can get up to a GB (4G/LTE), but they'll take another $2 off your balance. Not bad, I'd say. If it's not used one day, you won't get charged !!
    Max. ~$60/month

BOOST UNLTD. with 2GB data on 3G+, but Telstra's superior network (coverage wise). $40/30days

Both prepaid plans. I don't do contracts / plans anymore. Phone outright. Almost always has been. Since the Nokia 7110.

I'm in the UK so I don't know if it's of any interest. But just so you can see how we price things differently over here.

I didn't pay anything for my Z10 upfront. I'm on 24 month contract.

    200 anytime cross network minutes
5000 texts (which is classed as unlimited)
    Truly unlimited 4G data.

    All for 19 a month

In Manitoba. On MTS. My plan is from 5 years ago. I keep buying phones outright since it's cheaper with this plan and I'm not stuck on a contract. It just keeps going. And I get a discount for having my own personal phone on it.

    250 weekday minutes
    Caller ID
    Voicemail
    Call waiting
    Unlimited data
Unlimited texting and free local mts to mts phones.

I pay 55$. A new plan with just unlimited data is 62.99$ I believe so no use getting anything new. Only thing I don't get is LTE and where I live it isn't offered. So no big loss!
I usually use around 8-10gb a month so unlimited is a must

$25 (plus tax, grrr) for unlimited talk, text, 2.5GB LTE and unlimited 2G (or is it 3G?) if you use up all LTE on T-Mobile Family Plan for four.

Best value IMO. Metro offers four lines for $25 each flat but only offers 1GB of LTE I think and doesn't have as good coverage as T-Mobile. Sprint has four for $100 too and gives 3GB of 4G but their service sucks.

Oh, and T-Mobile comes with free unlimited music streaming.

Wow, those are some pretty good plans with Rogers. Whereabouts are you guys located? I've been a Rogers wireless / BlackBerry customer since 2007 and I usually get some pretty good retention plans. For my Passport, I opted for a 2-year term so I had to sign up with a current wireless plan. I did get a slightly better rate and increased data over what is advertised on their website when I called in though.

I'm now on Rogers' Share Everything plan with just 1 phone. $75/month for 1GB data, unlimited Canada-wide calling, unlimited messaging, call display, voicemail, call waiting, group calling and 2500 call-forwarding minutes.

Data is where us canadians are getting raped. All the current plan offerings are outrageously priced for the amount of data that is given.
