I've been wondering what will happen if BlackBerry goes under. For example, does my phone still work, if not what happens to my contract. If it does will it have no maintenance or apps. Will I get refunded? I hope it doesn't happen but it could. Any ideas?

    Your phone will continue working.
You will still be bound by your contract.
Developer support will wane over time.

Your phone will self destruct. Sorry. Should've read the manual. "In case BlackBerry gets sold (or goes bankrupt) this phone WILL self destruct" Try to make sure you are as far away from it as possible when it does happen. :P

Being as far away as possible won't help. All BlackBerrys have an anti-matter loaded self-destruct microkernel core.

will it continue working? I mean for BIS users who have to pay on BBOS, would the NOC still be there? I think that's not a question to worry about as theyd get bought before out of business youd think, but stranger things have happened.

I've wondered about the BIS thing myself. If BBM is for sure continuing on for a while, as it is powered by the NOC, it stands to reason the NOC will be operational whether BlackBerry continues making devices, developing the OS or neither. Here's hoping.

I have 3 webOS devices, and they all still work.

If Blackberry breaks up, is bought, or discontinues making smartphones, it is very likely the company's servers that support BBOS and BB10 devices will continue to operate for a number of years. The only way that might NOT happen is if Blackberry goes out of business entirely and none of its assets are bought. I think that scenario is unlikely.

Use the Force to deactivate the destruct mechanism.

In addition to the phones self destructing, BlackBerry going out of business will max out all your credit cards, force your girl friend to be unfaithful and make you want to run with scissors in your hands.....pray they don't give out of business

I doubt they will go out of business. More than likely, they will sell off some of the technology they are not using. Over the years, they've bought out a few companies. It would make more sense with their trimming down to sell off what is not part of BlackBerry 10 or QNX.

It will not be a huge factor. My Z10 phone will continue to work and when the time comes to replace my phone, I will look at what phones are available that best suits my needs..

You meant BlackBerry is really the secret organization that has been preventing zombie apocalypse all this time?!
