But I made my choice and I don't need ya to understand it.
What is there to understand? You just said you didn't know what Open-Source was yet you are trying to form an argument based on your made up beliefs.

If you don't think android is a security risk then that's all that needs to think that in your case.
Android is a security risk if you let it be. Build an ultra secure kernel (like the US Government is doing for certain Android devices). A few Android devices even have FIPS certification.

Actually I was being sarcastic. I just bailed out of the arguement. It doesn't mean much to me. I know what open source is. My beliefs are not made up. My beliefs are based on what I've ran on my own devices. Android allows for devs to write and develope apps annomiously.
Sian John, Nortons mobile specialist has put out a few white papers lately. He his self says that ios and android has more security than pcs but android falls victim still. Ios still has its woes. So no my beliefs are not made up.

Actually, I think you're just a little bit stupid. The acknoledgment of android software is most likely caused by the fact, that they use parts of the android source in OS2.0 (to run android apps would be a good guess).

then there's the browser, based on an open source project (webkit.org), the webworks framework to write apps for BBOS5+ and the Tablet OS (get the source at github.com/blackberry) which anyone can "manipulate".

Oh, and look, RIM is actually a friend of open source software:

"Following this release, RIM will collaborate with the existing open source communities to incorporate these changes into the upstream repositories."
    (blackberry.github.com)

I guess it's really time for you to put your blackberry devices in the drawer...

I'm trying not to get the tread closed. You don't have to insult any body. You can't run and android app on os7. Its still java based. When Rim bought QNX they resricted the source code. So how's that for supporting open source code. Supporting open source code and running open source os is 2 different things. Again I run a lot of open source software. I support the "community" so I guess I can keep the 'ol blackberry out of the drawer another day or so. I don't mind being alittle stupid.
Os6 was attacked thru a webkit attack. The contact list and some media was transfered. I think it was os5 that had a small certific issue that allowed users click on links in messages and go to malious websites. The rim os has been successively attacked. But what's keeps the attacks at bay is the fact that noone knows about the os and how it works. It makes planning the attack hard.

This isn't an arguent nor did I bring it to the discussion
From Rims point of view. This is actually what security researchers have said about the blackberry os. I don't think I've ever read a comment from Rim that their secrets make their os secure.
You can find lots of spectulation about exploits on blackberrys. But they offer no examples of actual exploits. The blackberry has been exploited and the guys showed how they done it. They even state is was trial and error. I don't put much value in discussions where they talk about blackberry may be exploited with a $100 key blah blah when they offer no example of a exploit. There's people out there that test the security of everything. They are going as far as making public what they find. You can bet they tried it. My statement was it makes the planning of the attack harder. Not undoable.
One can just ask if the webkit exploit is still open or if Rim ever got it patched. I haven't read where it was exploited again.

so. again. webkit is part of the playbook os and it's also on the phones. no problem with that? :-)

and by the way, that ~400mb download containing the os 2.0 update contains a quite complete android system in a file called sys.android.bar. so sorry, your playbook has the whole, evil android stuff in it.

Hmmmmm na. No problem at all. And I never said android was evil. I think I can be quoted saying I like it.
I'm real curious on how the whole android apps running on the PB is gonna work out. But android isn't part of the os. Its a way that the app can run on the qnx os. Can't wait to get my PB and down load the 400 mb file to try it out.

Open source or not, ultimately the user is the one that allows their info to be stolen, whether they know it or not. BlackBerry encryption may be strong, but an app given the proper permissions can still cause trouble. Remember the situation from a few years ago when a Middle Eastern carrier told their customers to download a security update that was actually a piece of spyware.

btw fwiw I just bought myself a playbook. I cheated it already ha 2.0 on it. Funny thing is I was just researching how to run android apps on it. It appears that it has to side loaded. And the app as to be ported to do it. Its my understanding at this time that regular android app won't run on the playbook.
You can run windows app on linux by run wine. Does that make windows part of the os? No.

I'm honestly not sure. When this was first realized I don't remember reading if RIM was going to do anything about it.
