Been using blue tooth since the pda days, funny though how many times I have to explain what it is to people especially iPhone users. We also have Nfc

    NFC: "Not For Consumers"
Even the mighty Google couldn't get this going:
09-19-13 - Google Wallet Comes To iOS After Dropping NFC Requirement On Android
Without Apple and its 500 million plus credit card DB to lead the way, NFC is dead, just like mobile Flash.

isn't airdrop same thing as wifi file transfer ?

one thing apple do it the best is making a cool name for their product :
retina display ....more than 270 ppi on screen
    airdrop......wifi file transfer
    facetime.....video calling
    itunes....music/movie store
    ipad....tablet
    ipod....music player
    applecare....extra warranty
    apple genius....customer service / repairman

Could be wrong but Airdrop appears to be only between Apple devices. In other words proprietary.

Without data as to what the adoption rate is and how much its used the above is meaningless.

Aside from some transit systems, I haven't seen much NFC use in Europe either.

    It sure appears dead.

Besides the fact that its completely unnecessary, and needlessly complicates things, it might get replaced by iBeacon, that Apple just launched.

iBeacon/Bluetooth LE seems like a good replacement for NFC.

But mainly for payments. For anything else, it's just a hassle and add unnecessary complexity. And there's always a better non-NFC alternative.

Take NFC files sharing for example. Airdrop (or wifi direct for that matter) is an easier, more secure and much faster solution.

I like nfc blue tooth us too slow. And I don't like having to turn on bluetooth and have to pair the phones together I like just laying them together when transferring multiple files. Wifi direct wasn't that not going to be available for the z10?

iTunes is absolutely a brand and not a glorified name for what it provides. You're way off on that.
