Hello to all Crackberry peeps!
I'm getting ready to buy 2 new Blackberry's. 1st is a Torch then a 9780. Currently i have 2 Bolds 1 & 2. My question to you all is.... what's better? The Torch or the Bold 9780? From what ive heard from people owning a Torch is It eats up allot of battery life... is that true? Im guessing with the Bold 9780 its battery life is just as wonderful as its siblings (Bold 9000 and Bold 9700). If anyone can help me with this... id love to hear all your comments. Thanks in advance.
My experience is the Torch uses far more battery than the 9700 did but I guess that's obvious as the Torch powers a huge touch screen, the Bold's screen is half the size.
Other than that they are very similar spec phones so I guess it's a preference on touch screen vs non touch and the two different screen sizes.

My 9800 lasts a day and into the next wih consistent use throughout the day. I really use the browser. I don't use it for music or videos.
My 9700 lasted two full days with less browsing.

I don't get the mileage out of a charge that Qbnkelt does/did, but I don't have a problem with the battery life of either.
My 9700 definitely had no issue with its charge.
My 9800 is usually just squeaking in by the evening. Sometimes I have to charge it in the evening so I have the juice left to use it while I walk the dog later.
I also do NOT use music and rarely watch videos (just the odd YouTube, not movies).
I loved the 9700, and I'm sure the 9780 would be just that much better.
But I really love the 9800. The extra input choices are terrific. When I pick up my wife's 9700, I find myself consciously fighting the strong urge to click on-screen options like Open/Save/Cancel/etc.
The Torch's camera is amazing compared to other BBs. I don't use it much, but it's great. It is however a little too slow to click the picture in the end.
The thing to remember about the Torch is that it's only going to get better and better every month as new OS's are released.
This is a new form factor but especially a new screen format for RIM. The improvements over the last few OS's have already been substantial.
I believe we'll see battery consumption improvements as they continue to refine the OS over the next year.

Not only is it also powering a larger touch screen, it also has a smaller battery. The Torch's battery is 1270 mAh, and the Bolds is 1550 mAh.
Don't forget a couple of little things that can help you extend the battery....use the auto on/off (mine goes off at 9 p.m. It comes back on at 3 a.m.) Also use the 9700 case when you're not using the phone. Makes it go to sleep.

@ elite1: I kinda figured that out lol. You think the leather case that comes with the Bold 9000 work on the Torch?
No unfortunately not. The 9000 won't properly put it in/out of Standby. The new leather holsters they're making, so far for only 9100 and 9800 I believe, are actually pretty nice and a lot sleeker.
I'm not sure if you're in the US, Canada, or elsewhere, but tons of sites should be having crazy sales starting this Wed night / Thursday.
There's a matching beltclip-less pouch too, if you're not going to put it on your belt anyhow, and it's $5-10 less.
