I saw a post in general discussion about BlackBerry maps working with GPS, so I tried it out. My 8330 Curve on Verizon locked on my location, accurately, with BlackBerry map. I was a few days from buying a Freedom 2000 too. I tried with google maps and it didn't work, but this is still a start and good enough for what I need to use GPS for.

Well I check this forum more frequently than any other, so I figured one post here would help anyone else out who has a Curve and mostly checks here.

which blackberry maps? i have blackberry maps and cant see if it has any gps activity? how did you tell if it works? (i.e commands?)

did you have to re-install? reregister the device on the network?

i tried to resend the service books but that didnt work...

This is amazing!! I had read the Storm's GPS worked with BB Maps. I wasn't worried about switching because I have a Garmin for BB. I like the Garmin since it has voice "turn-by-turn" directions, but if I forget it for some reason, at least I can use the internal GPS to get around. This is truly great news!!!

Still only works with BBMaps... no Google Maps, Live, TellMe, etc.

Great news...Seems like VZW might be stepping up to the plate in other areas other than just best coverage.

Mine works too! Fantastic! I'm hoping they'll open it up to other apps too (especially google maps, which I like better... or even LiveSearch) but this is a great start!

I'm sure if they planned on doing it anytime soon, it would have been done with this update. Sucks, but hey, I'll take what I can get!

Why would anyone use anything but VZ Navigator? I mean it does everything that any other GPS programs or devices do and more! The best feature is when my wife is shopping at the mall she can send me a GPS follow me request and then continue shopping. When I get there I can catch up to her using Navigator while she is on the go. Plus it gives you verbal direction directly into my Bluetooth Jawbone. Amazing. For only $10 a month just the Follow Me feature is more than worth it.

You would have to have a PC to add Blackberry's MAP's program back in. But like I just posted none of these "free" programs can hold a candle to VZ Navigator so don't worry your not missing much.
