I own the CDMA 8530 Curve from Verizon. I will be traveling abroad, mostly in Ireland, this summer. I understand that my phone will not support data plans abroad, but hope to possibly disable data and use it solely as a wi-fi device in hot-spot areas. Does anyone know if this is possible? Thanks!

If you disable data (in Manage Connections) nothing data-related will work on the device. What i'd do if i were you is:

Remove emails from BIS so nothing gets pushed.
Change all app's permissions to deny so they can't access data.
Change browser to HotSpot (Broswer > Options > Browser Config and General Options).

That would get you only browser but should stop any roaming fees.

If you just want web browsing, use Opera Mini and enable wifi.

But that does not cover apps that connect every now and then, like Google Sync, and pushed email...
