Japan supports the 3G standard on several carriers, so your main consideration will probably be whether you can get a US sourced device unlocked to use a Japanese carrier's SIM. There is usually a delay between a new model hitting the streets, and the third party unlockers getting the codes to unlock the new model.

If you want to use Japanese fonts you will also need to check if your preferred device can support them in the new OS.

I've used a Blackberry Tour twice in Japan. As long as tje phone you are using is UMTS 2100 you will be fine, and all the new Blackberry devices are.

I think you can use it since they'll launch the bold 9900 in February.

FYI, when I was in Japan this past Oct, my TMO 9700 picked up 3G with breeze. The 3G speed was so fast. I feel no big different comparing to the 4G from TMO in the US now that I have 9810... Well we all know most 4G in the US is just a 4th generation, not LTE.

    Good luck and enjoy Japan
