What is the difference in charge speed when the USB charge plug is connected to a laptop vs the wall plug charger?

Most older generation laptop USB chargers provide a maximum of 500mA. However, within the last ~1-2 years, laptops are being made with dedicate "Sleep and Charge" ports, which aside from charging when the computer is off, can also provide up to a maximum of 1A.

I believe it's possible to get more than 500mA from the older ports, but it requires shorting out the two data pins in the microUSB cable. The flip side of that is the cable will not do data transmissions, if modified in such a way.

think of usb as a trickle charger. ac adapter is full on charging.

So both of you seem to agree that the AC adaptor is quicker?
I kinda thought so but hadn't been able to monitor the difference between them since I was always using the device when it was connected to my laptop.
    Thx for the help .

My little BB brand wall charger cube is 750mA output. Check your computer specs to compare.

You can get high rate wall chargers, like the one that comes with the Playbook that will charge at 1000mA, as well as car adaptors that have the same rating. You have to pay attention to the details on the packaging, if they don't say 1000mA then you are getting a 500-750 one.
