Few thousand phones.....NSA adoption shows Samsung security.....lol.....here is how I see it. Army is front lines, therefore phones are going to fall in enemies hands. The enemy uses them, US listens in.....enemy gets anihilated. See simple explanation.

This is not good for BlackBerry. While they are "Sharpening their focus", Samsung will be stealing their business and the executives. While I have personally found some of the DoD's security on communications in the theatre laughable compared to what other organizations are held to, this could start the domino's falling in the US government space away from BlackBerry at a rapid pace.

This is not a Samsung phone like you get from carriers. It most likely will not have access to the Playstore but a curated store on a DOD server that the government agency controls. Same with SMS its thru government servers Its one issue that will prevent Apple from getting the highest security government clearance they won't let the DOD control their iMessage/Facetime servers.

First of all, Samsung is not providing the secure software on those phones.

The Army order is for the company's Nett Warrior system, which outfits soldiers with a chest-mounted Samsung Note II smartphone to use while on the battlefield. While Samsung already had an initial contract to supply devices for the Nett Warrior system, the new order expands the number of Samsung devices in use there. The NSA order would be for the agency's Fishbowl Project, an initiative it started several years ago to update the devices used by NSA personnel. Both the Army and the NSA equip the devices with their own, secure software.
Secondly, both orders are for a few thounsand devices.

Samsung recently won an order for roughly 7,000 smartphones from the U.S. Army and is close to an order for several thousand devices from the U.S. National Security Agency, according to a person familiar with the matter.

While this is a reason for concern for BlackBerry, it's not the powerful blow that media would love to talk about.

They will be issuing a statement shortly regarding the purchase of BlackBerry 10 devices, the ratio of BlackBerry vs other platforms 80/20 , is remaining the same as was originally announced, lame street media again puts their own spin!

None. You can't run a separate OS on a BlackBerry because of the inability to root the hardware. That's the security of BlackBerry. On the Samsung phones they are getting, they aren't running any sort of commercial OS. They are installing their own. Just like you could decide to run Ubuntu Mobile on those devices.
