I connected my Tour to my laptop via Tether and my phone began a wipe and scrub that I couldn't stop. I pulled the battery, which did nothing. What in the world!!!!!!! I'm fuming! Any clues as to why this happened?????

What is a wipe and scrub? Do you mean "Security Wipe?" What did you see on the screen?

By the way, don't ever pull the battery during a Security Wipe. It will brick your phone.

It said starting security wipe and then after that it scrubbed the phone. It finally finished and when the phone turned back on all of my third party apps were still on the phone albeit rearranged. Contacts and calendar information had been wiped. It registered with Verizon and Blackberry again.

Bricked (also called Nuked) = Dead
More specifically you can corrupt the phones Operating System (OS) to the
point where the phone is unusable until the OS is reloaded.

My phone wiped when I went to answer it on monday. It rebooted itself and all my stuff was gone. Luckily I had a somewhat recent back up.

Lol, I know it's impossible because it would have to be hard-coded at device level so as to work on non-official OS's, but this would be the perfect way for VZW to enforce it's anti-Tether policy. Hook up to Tether and BAM! Security Wipe.

And I was just about to fire up Tether for an evening of surfing

Uh huh. Sounds like you may be on to something. Did you update the PC app or the bb app?

    The morning after.....

I had updated Tether on the device earlier in the day.

Yes, I do frequently back up my data, so all was not lost! I have non stop weird things go wrong with my phone as of late. So I backup frequently with the expectation of disaster, lol! Verizon has sent me a new phone in the midst of all of these strange goings on. Ragnarokx.... it's not a virus; its a curse!!! NO, I think it must be a conspiracy! I have the X-Files theme as my ring tone, so I'll go with the conspiracy theory.

Sounds like it's not a Teather issue since you've been doing back-ups due to weird things. I updated Teather with no issues.
