    If it is a Sprint 9650, it should be unlocked already. If it is a Verizon 9650, you will need to have it unlocked. Check to see what frequencies your provider is on, and make sure that the device is compatible. Some only run on EDGE, not 3G.

    Only the GSM can be unlocked. And then it may not work in North America.

    9650 has GSM capabilities for North America, so he/she should be fine. I would definitely check with the provider in Barbados though to ensure compatibility before purchasing and unlocking.

    GSM side will work in North America on certain carriers but only on 2G... It will definately work in Barbados
