    Hi,

I'm really confused about who I pay for my UMA calls. I've tried searching the forums but nothing seems to answer my specific question.

I sometimes stay in an area that has no mobile coverage but does have internet access so can connect with my Curve and the "UMA" symbol appears in the top left of the screen. So I can make and receive calls over this and thats fine.

What I want to know is, are these texts and minutes covered by Orange my network? Do they come under my free minutes and texts?

    Thanks for the help.

You have described the greatest strength of UMA, access to your carrier plan, even when there is no carrier signal.

Everything passes through the internet, but it is treated exactly the same as if you were using your carrier signal.

I can't speak for Orange, but with T-Mobile in the U.S., you have to have the Unlimited HotSpot service added ($9.99 monthly) and your calls won't count against your minutes. Text messaging does not use UMA I believe. I was told only voice.
