So, the man responsible for the awful Facebook app and the man responsible for the buggy Contacts app are gone? Sounds like good news to me!

    (I kid, I kid)
Actually I have no real complaints with the FB app -- it works for me, actually better than the cloogy full browser site. Other than that, I don't know what the rest of McCann's contributions or responsibilities were. But BB10's Calendar is nothing to write home about, and Contacts is buggy as all hell and surely not worthy of the platform whose biggest strength is supposed to be communications. I totally agree that at least one of these is no great loss -- and quite possibly both.

Start-up CEO's are a very different breed and live on the knife edge every day. Either you're throwing your's and other people's money away in great amounts or presiding over the distrubution of large sums of cash, I would say these two would find the daily corporate gig quite mundane. Furthermore, it's not uncommon for aquisition deals to commit senior folks to defined terms of service which eventually run out and set these folks free.

I suspect their departures were well known in advance and probably the best thing for both parties.

It is a typical business move. Build, another company acquires, transition occurs (sometimes someone will say nothing will change, but it always does). The heads of the acquired company make money, stay, for a while and then move on to their next great idea/adventure.

Thank you for your contribution to BlackBerry 's future. Good luck in your endeavors, and don't let the screen door hit your fanny on the way our.

@Dave Borque - What an ignorant statement. Should take some business classes..
Fresh blood? They bought these guys companies. Just like they bought TAT. For their experience. For their people. For their skills.
And I am sure they didn't come cheaply. And now they've left (as did Rob Orr) and the excuses start.

    Same old, same old.

Man - you'd swear these apps secretly shoot and distribute kiddie porn in your name and without your knowledge, the way that people describe them.

I never really had an issue with Facebook on BlackBerry 10 (and yes, I use it on iOS too). At least not to the ire that many put forth about them.

Speaking as someone who's seen a lot of startups get acquired, I find this is common. Startup leaders tend to hate being part of a big machine and tend to leave because they want to do another startup. Things are too slow, too corporate, too rigid, too bound by legal, too beurocratic.

I've seen it at least a dozen times in my life. The leaders stay for a while and then get tired and jump ship to do something else.

What I don't know in this case, is if both men left on their own accord or not ...

A high level exec exodus isn't good news. I remember following Palm and trying to act like it was a good thing when it was happening. In hindsight it was the beginning of the end. Not good.

I agree with Bla1ze, these two execs were bound to leave, but I don't see them as irreplaceable. I just hope more developers who were in their orbit don't get poached: I hope there was a non-poaching clause.
