I have been attempting to download for quite some time now. I have been stuck on installing "Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable" for around 20 minutes now. Believe this has to do with Microsoft servers though.
Most of the bugs were probably corrected in the large Beta testing provided by RIM.
Is it released (final)? Where can I find it?
Been using it for a couple of weeks now. Works very nicely. Even worked on areas that generated errors on the 5X version of DM when syncing Outllok with pictures.
On the CB home page is the link. Hard to miss it.
Thanks. Forget to check there.
the download is excruciatingly slow. still waiting for it to complete. it's coming at about 65 KB/sec...lame!
Does it work with office 2010?
I have never been overly impressed with Desktop Manager however, this version looks nicer, sleeker and less like it was written in Visual Basic in 2004. This is a GOOD THING IMO
I played around with it for a little bit, seemed to work nicely, looks like the media sync is alot better, pretty much does it automatically, same with creating a backup file.
Will work on 32 bit Windows only. Why not 64 bit I have no idea, why not hold the release until it is ready but used it today and the interface is nice and sync went smooth.
DM 6 won't allow me to set up OL 2002 sync for calendar or tasks so I'm going back to DM 5. My guess is its an reminder alarm issue, since that's the only thing the 2 have in common. I can do messages (notes) and contacts, but not the other 2.
Not sure what you mean by working on 32 bit Windows only but I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit and Office 2010 and it synched my appointments and contacts just fine. Or are you talking about something else? I did a device backup and it gave me no errors so maybe I'm missing something. Admittedly, most of this stuff is beyond me.
I like the interface and all, but it is showing me as needing an update to applications, and I also clicked some apps to remove as well. They showed in the list as "pending" but the apply button doesn't work. I looked at the help file and it said basically "click the apply button" to apply changes (should be fairly intuitive right? lol.) But my button won't highlight and it isn't clickable. If I try to exit the program it prompts me about pending changes that haven't been done. Anyone else having problem actually getting the apply button to work? Am I doing something completely wrong?
I've only used it for doing backups and a restore so far (I have the beta version from a few weeks ago), but it has worked fine. I haven't tried the sync or anything yet. My only real complaint is that it's so different it confused me at first...lol! Usually RIM does small upgrades that don't change things much, but this one is pretty significant, at least in the look and feel.
Downloaded ok (SLOOOWWW  ) and currently installing BB DM 6.
My PC has Office 2010 on XP SP3.
Install went OK, but seems to have several "validating install" passes.
Now for the required restart :(
ok, thanks guys, for "you know what" and giggles, I'm going to give it a try. It can't be any worse than a particular beta build of NIS I installed a couple years ago, that took my Windows installation DOWN. THAT was the worst-behaved beta I've ever tested. (and yes, I know DM6 isn't a beta. )
HOLY BATMAN!!! Every time I run the install program, I get a dialog box that is from One Touch Meter Setup (diabetes meter drivers program). Something is seriously wacky. I have options to "modify" or "delete" the one touch drivers. Sounds to me like RIM has chosen some file names that are identical to other files already on my system. I haven't had anything like this happen for at least a dozen years. There used to be two programs I used on a PC that interfered with each other. I could only run the most recently installed program, due to file name (dll's) collisions. This is NUTS!!
After the loooong download (100 MB EXE file!) and install - finally have it running.
So far so good...
- install program deletes ALL prior backups (save these if you need them)
- UI is nice and modern, vs the old 5.x that uses a Windows NT class UI
- Media Sync is good - backs up pix, music, videos from phone/SD to PC
- have not tested the Sync features
what do you mean, exactly? it deletes all phone backups? Are you saying it scans your HDD and deletes all of the backup files, no matter where they are saved?
The install program SAYS that its deleting all backups. It probably cleans out old/default files as part of un-installing the prior version of DM.
AFAIK it does NOT scan and remove all .IPD files - although its unclear that the old ones will work with this version (!).
New backups are stored in folder -> My Documents \ Blackberry \ Backup
I've been using it for a few weeks, and it is very similar to DM5 with a prettier UI.
I've done backups, restores, a full OS install, program install/remove, and some media syncing. The media syncing was a little sluggish, but it did clean up duplicate files I had from a 3rd party app, so that was nice. Everything else worked almost exactly the same as DM5, maybe a little quicker.
I need to download the new version - I'm sure it's a slightly quicker/better experience then the beta. But it is definitely not a disaster.
I have tried to install DM V6 this evening and it installs but cannot find my BB Pearl Flip 8230. It then promptly crashes. Any ideas??
Just downloaded...question, how do you do the companionlimk add in???
up and running DM6 now. I had to unpack and run setup manually to keep the darn thing from running installshield from one of my other installed apps.
