    Hello,

I have unlocked AT&T 9700 and will be traveling outside of US. Now, I know that if I put other carrier's (pre-paid) SIM card and when in WiFi zone email will *not* work, as well as browser will not work. Because they require BIS or BES.
Is there are any other browser which will work without data plan but with WiFi only? Bolt? Opera? Anybody knows if GMail will work, or does it require BIS too? What about Google Voice?
I may not be able to get pre-paid SIM card in other country *with* Blackberry data plan, but I certainly will have have access to WiFi.
Anyway I can get things working with WiFi only?
If not, I'll have to get some other phone (probably Android, as they are unlocked from what I know), and they work via WiFi... But I don't want to! ;-)

    Thanks!

I'd be curious as well. One of my reasons for planning on getting a new 9650 is to have a mini computer when I'm traveling, even if all that's available is WiFi. If I can't just fire up gmail over wifi... well then what's the point of wifi?

    This is what I found
Wifi on Blackberry Why NOT?- Sync and Gmail for Apps - Google Mobile Help
mean, Gmail, Google Maps, and other apps will not work on Blackberry if it has no data plan/BIS. So, even with full WiFi -- no luck here :-(

It depends a lot on where you are travelling to.

If you come to the UK then you will be spoilt for choice - more than in the US.

    Other places have other deals.

What you will probably need is Pay As You Go (pre-paid in the US).

This will give you calling and SMS. You should get WiFi with no problem since you still have you hoime Service Books installed.
