It's the way the track pad works with conductivity and heat from the body...I won't get in the the scientific reasons. So I would just removed the gloves. HA HA HA
Yep, makes perfect sense. You need to take the gloves off.
The trackpad works by reading the change of texture on your finger (fingerprint ridges) and translates that into a movement in whatever direction. So the reason it won't work with Latex is because there aren't those fingerprint ridges to read.

It works the same way a touchscreen works.
The pad won't work with gloves period.
You'll need to get yourself some fake fingerprints to put on the tips of your latex gloves ;) should have them at your local spy store
Try turning up your trackpad sensitivity. I work in a lab and use my 9650 with latex gloves on all the time. It is not as responsive as with bare finger but still works for me (70% setting).
I have a Seidio rugged case that covers the keyboard. I also put my phone with case, in a ziploc sandwich bag to protect from metal grinding dust. I don't have any trouble using my 9700's keypad. I'm not sure that 'reading fingerprints' is a valid explanation.

I don't even think the heat is a valid explanation.... lol. I think it senses movement.... but hey I could be wrong.
But you for sure can use the bottom of a pen, a tshirt, paper, thick padded winter gloves, pretty much anything... not sure why latex doesnt work tho... thats kinda weird.
Your talking about the keypad. The OP is talking about the trackpad (replaced the trackball)
I am also speaking of the trackpad. I did errantly type keypad at the end of my post. Was referring to the keypad cover that also covers trackpad on the Rugged case.

It tracks motion the same way an optical mouse does, with IR illumination and an optical pickup.
This is very interesting.. Sometimes I sneak a look @ my Berry while @ work which is why simply taking off the gloves isn't really practical..

Other things don't work the same covered with latex. Lol!

I about dropped my bold when I read that title! I thought I was the only one with that problem. Ha!

Yeah, I have to lock my keyboard when I'm wiping down the phone with cloth. I just tried my mousepad and that works, too, lol.
OP, no problems here. The latex gloves that we have in lab are the kind with textured fingertips for better grip (Dot Scientific Premium Touch Gold Grip Plus). Don't know if that texture makes a difference, but the responsiveness is good. 60/60 sensitivity setting with my trackpad.
