The BB 10 devices should have faster processor before go in to a major touch screen upgrade. But by looking at RIM's history, I don't think people at RIM are smart enough to include a powerful processor on their new upcoming phones.
Let's try to stay on topic. We're talking about touch screen latency, not phone specs.
Agreed. Mine is usually very responsive when using it to zoom, scroll and select text aside from using the keyboard. It has to be spot on when using the playbook via remote control.
I talked about BB 10 because my current Bold 9900 on OS 7.1 have touch screen issues depend on the app. The response time is significantly reduced on games and according to "so called experts" it is due to the processor not the screen itself on Bold 9900.
Well if I use a drawing program like SketchPad on the playbook it basically stays right under my finger. The latency on the playbook is probably low...much less than the 100 ms this presenter claims is the average :eek:
Almost all of my drawing/painting apps on my playbook show low latency :)

But wow. When it was the 0 ms one. That's crazy. That would make the user experience so much better.
The 1.2 ghz snap dragon in the upper end BB7's is no slouch by any stretch. And if that isn't enough, take a peek at what's being strongly rumored to be slated for BB10: Hands-on demo with TI's OMAP5 platform at MWC (video) -- Engadget. I believe RIM has learned that they can't skimp on hardware any more, especially in the BB10 phones whose sole purpose is to demonstrate that they can out-everything the competition.
To get back on topic, I've found touch-screen latency is highly dependent on the app that's running, or even what the app is doing at the time. On both my PlayBook and 9900, I've seen the browser go from instantaneous responsiveness to laggy and back again depending on web page content. On both devices I've had apps that are extremely responsive and other apps that are unacceptably unresponsive. There will of course be hardware limitations as well where, all other things being equal, some hardware will perform better than others.

The quality of the apps we get definitely varies :p
The better apps are 'lag-free' and then there are the apps that seem to be written by less experienced developers - that, I think, plays the more significant role in the lag we experience
Sometimes phone makers throw faster hardware at lousy coding ;)
running my 9550 i can definitely see the latency depending on what im running. if im downloading something in AppWorld my phone becomes useless until it is done. I know downloading is also a carrier thing. if im in portrait or landscape its faster for me to type the word "one hundred" then switch back and forth to type out "100" so latency for me is a big problem on my 9550.
On my PB i haven't noticed a single hung up. it always keeps up with me no matter what im running. playing the game "Dodge", your a lil ball/balloon and have to doge ninja stars bouncing around the screen, and it moves just as fast as my finger.
