I currently have a BB bold 9650 (Verizon) but am really considering switching to an android phone due to the better web app experience. Any input on this? the upcoming bold touch looks nice but I don't want to spend what it's going to cost at launch, and also the screen isn't any bigger so it's still limited for web browsing. How is others experience with android vs BB?

I tried the Droid X 6 weeks ago or so and I was torn. There were things I loved about it and things I just didn't like about it. The basic stuff that I love about bb were not as basic on the X. But the things that are so painfully slow on the bold were very nice on the X. If RIM leaks of the new phone had not come out I would have kept the X. But with the new specs I wanted to wait. Long story short the only thing I really wanted from the X was the browser speed and maybe a few apps. Everything else I liked better on the Bold. When I was on the go the Bold was easier to use with one hand and texting was easier for me also with the bold. Only problem is I only had two weeks to give it a whirl. But from the X and an ipod touch I have found for me text input has been easier with a physical kb. So take that for what its worth.

It depends on what you need your device to do. I think the web browsing on an Android is very nice. But, if you use it more for emailing and messaging a BB is a better answer. Keep in mind there will be some new BB's later this year. Good luck!

It really depends what device on either side of the fence your talking about and how you use it. I like my BB over what my daughter's captivate, buddies's x,hd2s, arias, and iphones does. I can't tell you which is better only you can. You just concider all of the formfactors and that's your answer.

It all depends on what you need, as each device handles differently.

Browser-Android hands down. Browsing on my Curve and Tour was nothing compared to my X. It's like night and day. Pinch to zoom, PC like experience and better speed.

Messaging- Blackberry. The simplicity is nothing I can duplicate on my X. Not that Android is hard to message with, Blackberry just does that better. And my next phone, which will still be an Android, will need to have a physical keyboard. I really miss the BB keyboard. I like the virtual keyboard on the X's big screen but nothing compares to physical buttons.

Calendar- I never used it on my BB. I hated syncing, so Android wins this for me because of the wireless sync with Google calendar.

Emails-This options is a toss up because I don't count on emails for anything too important. But BB does this easier.

Apps- Android of course. I HATED Blackberry App world. Its a joke. HATED IT!

It all comes down to each user, each platform works differently for each user. I recommend trying it out yourself so you can make an educated decision.

I find the BB a more robust device, but the Android OS provides more user options and easier to find exactly what you are looking for with respect to Apps. It is easier to code for. Personally, I like a device that works and I find both my BB Torch and my iOS devices do that for me, but it comes a a cost of restrictive UI, granted BB offers more user configurable options IMO.

Maybe a big question is, does battery life mean a lot to you?

In my career line we deploy, a LOT and with that said messenging and e-mail services are highly coveted. The Blackberry allows me to perform these tasks quickly, efficiently, and effectively. I've already seen some threads on the Android forums below that the Droid OS has some issues with non Gmail accounts. That's enough to steer me away from those phones.

I routinely use the Browser in spurts, normally to check facebook, |EV| site, or google something quick. I don't normally surf on my smartphone for extended periods of time due to the nature of my job.

I just began using my 9650 as a music player and I can't believe what I've been missing out on. I brought my little 4GB shuffle out to the desert alongside it and I can tell you one thing, the shuffle is staying home next tour.

My opinion is fairly bias toward the BB but what can I say? I love the dang device. I have no problems being in the "Underdog" crowd and don't see any real defining reason to move to an iOS or Droid OS over my 9650. Plus, I'll agree with Wiggy11, the BB seems more robust and refined in my hand vs the Incredible.

When it comes down to it, your preferences matter most. I hope this may have helped a bit, and enjoy!

I too was having this delima a few months ago. I decided that I would go ahead and try the htc evo. At first I was in love simply because it was new and all the apps and web browsing. Honestly, once the new wore off I couldn't stand the phone anymore. I was tired of typing with the touch keyboard too. Thankfully I am back where I belong with BB9650. So speaking from experience I would stay with what you know because at first it may seem great but it will wear off.

Gotta agree with the others....BB is definitely more efficient. I've used BBs for 4-5 years now. Tried Android last year and it lasted about 5 days. I just prefer the solid and stable BB and I am addicted to my LED! I'm definitely eager to get one of the new BBs reportedly coming out soon.....ready for better/faster browsing then my 9700 on OS5 offers.

Actually it is bigger by.4" . Yeah, not a lot but it will be enough to make me happy because it can still mostly retain it's compact size. The extra .4 will def be noticible and a nice upgrade along with the rest of the new specs, imo.

I'm in the same boat as you. I notice how good my friend's android phones are compared to my old storm and even the 9650 I just got this week. I am really tempted by Motorola's bionic coming out sometime this year.

I am mainly waiting for the newer storm or the bold touch. But I honestly don't even know if I want them anymore?
I am okay with the smaller screen.

Many non BB users would agree how much further droid tech is than our ancient BB and the only reason I am holding on is for our email and LED. That is the only thing I believe BB is superior in - nothing else.

Give our ancient BB's a few months and then do that comparison again. ;-)

I had an android phone and was impressed but the battery couldn't keep up with my communication needs. By the end of a work day I would be looking for an outlet.
