Is it true that TomTom powers BlackBerry 10? If so why does it still suck? Why does it feel like Apple maps? I personally have had a lot of issues with BlackBerry maps and was expecting a flawless A-GPS on BlackBerry 10, kinda like an actual TomTom Navigation GPS.

Honestly nothing beats Google maps. Nothing will ever come close to the data base they built up. Just side load it and save yourself some trouble.

Tom Tom supplies map and traffic data to both BlackBerry and Apple which is probably why they both are reported to have some areas of inaccuracy. They're supplying the data only, not the full on nav and map software.

Tom Tom provides the traffic and directions. The map overlay is Microsoft Bing Maps like Nokia Maps.

What confuses me about BB Maps is that the QNX Car platform featured 3D maps when they showed it off but for some reason BB did not implement that on their phones as well.

My experience with BB maps is horrible, the GPS doesn't even recognize my home address. When I enter My Home, keeps tell me that address doesn't exist and suggests another number. The maps take so long to load. I will have to sideload google maps.

I have had more issues with Google Maps than TomTom.

You are not alone. I find the voice guidance in BlackBerry Maps to be one of the best around, and I have used a lot. Clear, concise guidance, and very accurate. Maybe other regions are not covered as well as here in NA? shrug

Let's hope BlackBerry maps evolves to the same point as TomTom's GPS has: the ability to report map corrections and map inaccuracies.

I've found it to be fine. It is pretty finicky in some places (won't find an address on cottonwood road but will find it on cotton wood road) and told me to take the west exit and U-turn instead of taking the east exit, but otherwise it's fine. I used Traffic a lot and I'm happy that maps shows an overlay of the real intersection.

Apple Maps is actually an incredible app.

They have improved that thing to a point that I don't even consider using Google maps anymore.

The 3D views and flyovers are stunning.

It's funny because I expected this since day 1....so was a developer friend of mine. I remember telling him about it and the CB proclamation of BB maps being amazing while Apple maps are awful and after I told him who supplies the data, he laughed and blurted out "it's going to have the exact same problems!", and I agreed. Then I added "yeah, but there will be many less users, so they won't find the map data glitches as often".....

I've listened to it closely, it still says "illegal" u turn. I know, cause whenever it tells me to do the u turn now, it's illegal right there right then.
