The prof sounds like the typical agenda driven social engineers that we have allowed to infiltrate and teach our children. They are offended if anyone dares to challenge their personal opinions and can rarely recognize facts when placed in front of them.

I'd build the real version for Blackberry and port the Angry Birds version for the android and ios. Don't forget to add the fart app in those as an important option.
Yes, that's it. It's part of the socialist lefty agenda.

You do realize your sainted BB comes from a country proud of it's progressive social agenda of socialized medicine, legal abortion and gay marriage, right?

I think getting upset to the point of shaking over a prof's opinion of a BB is silly. Sorry, it's overly emotional over a cell phone app.

That may garner extra credits. Or possibly expulsion. Take your choice.

Is this a joke? You guys are getting this worked up over a class assignment and one persons opinion? Which he's entitled to by the way.

The last I heard, there are over 50M BlackBerry users out there. Even when the QNX devices hit the market, there will still be a large number of people using the current BlackBerry lineup (especially anyone who got a BB7 device on two-year contract).

Sure, the numbers will go down as people switch over to QNX, and there will be a few developers who jump away from J2ME development on BB. I think there will still be a need for BlackBerry developers for quite a while. The trick for the programmer will be to keep up with multiple languages. That is about the only way to future-proof job security.

I appreciate that you've defined the lefty agenda as socialist, few will admit it. And nowhere did my post allude to a lefty, righty, inny or outty.

I have not sainted my BB, for I fear it has no soul so I don't really care who made it, as long as they wash their hands.

Nor was I shaking over the poor prof's opinion, merely offering my own. Polite discussion is still legal, last time I checked.

That is beyond gay; it doesn't sound like the guy knew about QNX imo.
Make the BlackBerry app and sumbit it to App World. If you don't have an app world account and don't want to get one, PM me and I'll put it up for you. When you make more (or have more downloads if it's free) than anyone else in the class, your prof will feel pretty stupid.

Im a college student. Engineering. I'm taking a class of software development and we are trying out out JAVA 2ME platform to develop little programs for mobile devices.
    So far not bad.

However we got this big project, in which we are suppose to develop a huge program that works with GPS and maps. Suddenly my teacher said: "your app has to be able to run on android and ios. If you got time then you can integrate your app to Blackberry but dont even bother, its not worth getting too familiarized with that thing as it will disappear in a couple of months"

As a proud owner of 3 blackberry devices I must say I was pretty upset. I think if you're a professor you must be professional when you refer yourself to brands and products.
    What a narrow-minded d-bag

Well, the professor's opinion is his own, and does have a right to it. However, I think presenting options without consequence (in class) is a purpose of college that is not being supported. The viability of BB apps v. iOS v. Android is equal. This is not an Economics class and should have nothing to do with being lucrative. It is a "development" class and should have everything to do with student choice of platform.

There is a simple method to resolve...
    1) Speak up in class and share your opinion on the viability of the BB Platform,
    2) If the Prof doesn't allow equal grading for those who opt for BB, then the issue can be taken to the Dept head or Dean for resolution.

That seems harsh, but the point of college is to learn about the field you'd like to go into, not learn which field is chosen for you. If you want to develop for BB, you should have that choice.

    Peace!

Y'all are getting so wound up with the most inconsequential part (the bolded part) that we are conveniently ignoring the fact that the rest of the statement reflects the current state of mobile development.

Your teacher's comments don't fit the context of your class as you've described it. You say you're doing Java ME/J2ME stuff? Neither iOS nor Android will run J2ME apps out of the box. It's possible to port J2ME apps to Android with an automated converter, but iOS does not do Java at all. So why would your teacher ask you to target those 2 platforms in a J2ME course?

I think that is why I left after 2 years and took over my old mans roofing business.

I'd find myself some CB stickers and show him how much you love Blackberry on his car. Can you tell I loved school?

Oh trucky I don't feel it's socialist at all. I feel it's fair and humane treatment for my fellow person. I was mocking the narrowminded faux news watchers who claim it's 'socialist'.

The sound you heard was my sarcasm and utter disdain for your 'opinion' flying over your head.

And I still say everyone getting bent out of shape over a damn assignment because someone 'dissed' BBs is completely and utterly stupid.

Exactly, that's what I asked earlier up, but seemed to be ignored. I'm of the opinion it's a made up rant to get attention. Tools to automate J2ME to Android are less than mediocre as it is, so it's not a viable option in the course. If the story were true, and the prof was indeed looking at mobile development, BB would be the first option (well, after symbian but there's no real use for that anymore).
