I make sure I close everything I'm in by hitting the menu button and exiting proberly. I also have my device in a holster with the magnetic tab, it puts it to sleep. My screen is at 30%. Lastly, I have it set so it shuts off every night at 9:00 p.m. and comes back on at 3:00 a.m. It sleeps when I sleep.
I'm pretty much on my phone all freakin' day, and it lasts a full day.

How do you set your screen to 30%?
And actually I used to make my bb go to sleep too but my friend told me that actually uses more battery cuz it always has to calculate whether it needs to shut on or off... *shrugs*
Go to Options>Display>Screen Display>Backlight.
On what your friend said, that's not been my experience. I have it on Auto On/Off.

I changed the screen brightness to the lowest.
My phone battery life isn't horrendous despite having Ubersocial update every 5 minutes all day every day and Facebook update every 30 minutes. I use BBM regularly all day, I use email and SMS and use the Browser.
My screen brightness is always set to 10, that's plenty bright enough for me.
If I absolutely need to save battery life I'll switch my mobile network to 2G only, and I'll exit ubersocial so it only updates when I go back in manually.
The alternative of course is to do what I do for when I know I'll be out all day and when I know my phone will be taking a hammering and carry a spare battery. Phone batteries are nowhere near the expense they once were so it's a viable option for most people now.
I had my screen at 50% and I have it on auto on/off - my battery is much better now. I'm going to drop the screen to 30% though - thanks for the tip.
