I'm grandfathered on AT&T's unlimited data plan, and I just tethered my BB to my laptop. I've heard of people getting texts from AT&T asking them to stop tethering or start paying for a monthly tethering plan. Is there a cap on the unlimited data?

if youre tethering they will automatically add it to your account so be careful.

and there is no cap, but they might throttle.

I thought tethering apps were stealth and not detectable. Not the case then?

Tethering apps like Tether.com are not detected and don't en cure extra charges, but the OP didn't state he was using an app, so the assumption is that he is using DM or other standard tether options that the carriers do detect.

I just tethered using EasyTether. The next day, I called to increase my data from 200 MB to the 3 GB. He did ask me if I was having overages but seemed unaware of what I had done. We'll see.
