I documented that this is Intel only. I will *not* be building for PowerPC. I have no way to know how to test for PowerPC. Sorry, but unless something is horribly wrong, I'm done with this little side project.

Hi,
Is there any reason why I cannot download the installer and getting a 404 error from your website?
Many thanks.
Sorry. You caught me in the middle of a little bit of maintenance. I have moved that page to Et-Setera BlackBerry Bold PPPD Replacement and had not quite gotten the redirect page in place. Please let me know if you run into any problems with this new page.
Thanks.
Okay thanks got it now, but it still doesn't work, installs fine, recreate bluetooth connection, click connect, don't get a warning about pppd changing and the keychain which is odd, and then times out with the ppp error as before. Guess I'll just have to bite the bullet and wait for RIM/Apple to sort something out unless anyone else has any ideas. Thanks for your efforts.
Here is what I have concluded
output from sudo pppd --version for original
pppd version 2.4.2 (Apple version 314.0.2)
using previous zip download
pppd version 2.4.2 (Apple version 314.0.2) - hacked
using new installer
pppd version 2.4.2.CFGDELAY (Apple version 314.0.2)
Is there another location that pppd could be residing that the system is running from and not the /usr/sbin/ directory?
posting this from my intel macbook pro unibody via my bold running OS .266, worked on the first try and it is unbelievably fast! woooooooot!
Btw, the username must be in capitals if that's helps, not just the password. WAP.CINGULARGPRS dot COM

benofishal: You are certainly running the correct version. Can you turn on verbose logging (Advanced -> PPP Tab -> Configuration Setting in the tethering network configuration). Use the Console application to find the ppp.log and see what it is saying. My guess is that you are running into a different issue.
Wow, a modified and recompiled pppd. Nice. Very very nice.
I shall have to try this when I get home. I'm quite excited. Maybe I'll actually get some use out of my 6 GB data plan (instead of a whopping 110 MB last month).
Amazing. Im in a park connected on .266 with 10.5.7. I have waited a long time for this, thanks so much Craig.
xkon: Great to hear that things are working for you.
I did hear back from Apple about the bug report I opened. The closed my bug as a duplicate of bug 6749380. Unfortunately, I don't know what I'm doing wrong because I can't figure out how to look at that bug. I do think it is a good sign that they already had a related bug.
Craig, THANK YOU!
I didn't tether much when on the stock at&t OS which is why i finally bit the bullet and upgraded.
I have found a couple of situations that I wished I was able to tether. Now I can....it works!
Thanks again!
csete : i think you need to email them.
from ADC's FAQ :
Bugs closed as a duplicate will show ‘Duplicate’ in the ‘State’ column of your problem list. Additionally, the original bug number under which the issue is being tracked will be provided. It will look like this:
State: Duplicate/1111111
To request a status update for your reported issue send an email to ADC Bug Reporting.
tomte: If that is the case, then I did the right thing by accident last night. I sent them an email asking about the duplicate bug. The response said that they are not manning the queues this week during WWDC. Maybe next week I will get a chance to see what they are up to.
If you have time could you have a quick look through this, it means nothing to me.

So how is this file working for everyone? What could it potentialy hose? I am tempted to install it on my new 13 macpro. Using ATT bold .266. Get the ppp error most of the time. Seems to work better when the bb data is off.
Thanks
richard371: I haven't heard of this hosing anyone, but obviously no guarantees.
benofishal: I can see in your output that you are running my version of the code because of the 1 second delay in the logs. This error is something different. It looks like your carrier is taking too long to respond to the LCP requests.
Thu Jun 11 12:49:57 2009 : LCP: timeout sending Config-Requests
You might try setting the lcp-restart interval to a larger number (10?) and see if that helps. You would have to do that via the /etc/ppp/options.cu.Bluetooth-Modem file
From the pppd manual page:
lcp-restart n
Set the LCP restart interval (retransmission timeout) to n seconds (default 3).
OMG, I have 2 Macbook Pro in front of me and both of them are running the latest 10.5.7 OS.
I can only tether one of them with my Bold (.247) while the other fails every time.
I have cross-check the settings many times on both machines and I dont see what differs the results.
Thanks for the script... Works great on my new MBP! :)))
markyeungcy: You need to turn on verbose logging and look at what the errors are that are occurring.
Awesome, I installed this and it worked on first try! Also, I did not have to turn off data services. Thank you!
Thank You so much! it works for me too!
It works, thank you Csete!
I just got my 13" 2.26GHz MacBook Pro and tried this earlier amd no luck. :(
If I can't get this to work, its going back.

bembol: If you capture some log information, we *may* be able to help.
* In your Dialup network connection, choose Advanced, PPP tab, Configuration Settings and enable "Use Verbose Logging"
* Attempt to connect
* Using the "Console" application, find the ppp.log
This will give you a lot more information about what is going on.
the pppd replacement fixed the issues i was having after updating to 10.5.7 and .282 on the bold.
10.5.6 and OS .266 are still the fastest connection in terms of initiating the tethering, it was almost instant, but now its about 19 seconds.
