Which is why I am NOT using a berry at the moment. Personal finances - well I just can't justify spending that much on something that I don't need, as much as I want it.

Do wireless companies charge too much? probably, but people day after day willingly sign contracts and pay the money. money-making 101: find a product or service that no one else has, costs you $0.10, and that the public willingly will pay you $2.00 for. And that's what cellular service providers have done! Tethering or not, fair price or not, OP; you signed a contract and agreed to extra charges if you break that contract

Side note: best Berry plan for my area (coverage maps, customer service rating, etc) seems to be Virgin. ($50 = 200 daytime minutes, unlimited evenings/weekends, 500mb data, choice of unlimited SMS or call display/voicemail.) add on $10 for the other feature (either SMS or call display/voicemail) and you total at $60. 13% taxes on top of that (and no system access fee). Phone prices are pretty good too, better then the provincially funded mobile telecom system provider

I am a carpenter. I work very hard and very honestly for my money. I wish I could get half of the sympathy you guys are handing out to these huge corporations that are out to screw us at every turn. It doesn't matter how well my contract is written up, people assume a hard working blue collar guy is being greedy and unfair, but not VZW, not ATT... I don't get you people.
Dude i work in the Automotive parts and service industry. You honestly think we get any slack for anyone?!?!

I had a guy do everything but cuss me out when i told him that 6 batteries for his tractor was almost 850 dollars.

But i know that it's a Free Enterprise Market that is driven by capitalism.

If East Penn says we should sell them for 126.00 we sell em for 126.00 a pop or if they say we sell for 250.00 a pop we sell em.

I have a product/service that you want. We have a price set forth.

    you can
    1) pay the $$$ to get said product/service
    2) take your money and do it your self.

And most contracts don't need a lawyer to navigate around, they just take some time to set down and read them. most people think "oh noez its a contract i need a lawyer". naw not really just put on your thinking cap and set down. The problem is when people go cell phone shopping the clerk says "i can sell you this phone at this price and get you this plan for this amount" and people get all excited and instantly go GIMME GIMME GIMME, in stead of saying let me take a contract home read it, and see what i think of the TOS.

Telus actually had a really, really good one up until about a month ago. Luckily it was around when I signed. BlackBerry45 ($45 + $7 for Call Display) for 200+50 bonus daytime minutes, unlimited evenings and weekends + starting at 6pm, 500mb of data, call display, choice of unlimited SMS, National My5, or Double minutes. (450 minutes), plus applicable taxes and SAF. I took the unlimited SMS option. I think it totals around $67 after taxes and such. Plus for phones, $25 for the Curve2, $0 for the Curve 8330 on a 2 year contract, Storm for $0 on a 3 year contract. Close to Virgin though. I think Telus is actually offering that exact same plan in their "$50 Clear Choice Plan" now.

You're right - the report I was looking at was North America, so Canada and US were both among the highest in the world. My overall point was US people pay a heck of a lot for cell phone service. I still do think that is true, and that our pricing structures promote greater consumption. Again, if you want me to put a disclaimer on everything saying it is my opinion I can do that but WTF of course it's my opinion. Why don't I put this disclaimer on everything:

DO NOT ACCEPT THESE OPINIONS AND VIEWS AS FACTS. ALL OF THESE OPINIONS AND VIEWS SHOULD BE CONSIDERED AT BEST THE RANTINGS OF A LUNATIC AND AT WORST BASED ON EGREGIOUS DISTORTIONS OF TRUTH, TO A VERY EVIL END INDEED (concern for consumers).

It is nothing short of amazing, the completeness of the indoctrination that any government regulation that even made a wrinkle in these large companies' revenue would be socialism. You do realize that you're spouting that back, and that it is propaganda, right?

I had half a mind to make another login, Andrew Jackson, and try to get everyone to agree that the FTC suppresses true competition and in order to have a true free market system we need to get rid of it. I feel I could so easily, under the handle of my alter ego, get so many of you guys... whoever you are... to agree to the idea that not just any but ALL government regulation of business and finance in the U.S. is socialism and should be done away with. Even after the types of things we've just seen as the results of no regulation (Disappeared pensions, Ponzi schemes, working people's lives ruined financially when they spent their whole life saving). Yes, I think that a person who so desired could use the anti-socialist angle to get the majority of people here on this board actually voting to protect cell phone companies' interests. But I kind of have a problem with f'ing with people's heads.

Ha ha Andrew Jackson could have pwn'ed the whole thing just by finding some way to call Samuel Adams a woman's body part without getting censored by the mods.

Don't you have some anti-capitalist blog you can complain about the CB mods in, instead of here?
