Testing Data Rates
OK, I'll admit I'm a little surprised. I just got Speedtest working on my Bold 9700. I got the following results. (I ran each mode several times, these are about midpoint for each)
EDGE---Avg. Download Speed: 129 Kbits/s
Avg. Upload Speed: 46.5 Kbits/s
WiFi---Avg. Download Speed: 199 Kbits/s
Avg. Upload Speed: 174 Kbits/s
3G-----Avg. Download Speed: 1725 Kbits/s
Avg. Upload Speed: 77 Kbits/s
First, I'm shocked that WiFi is as "slow" as it is. Is this a function of the BB? I ask because I'm running on 7mbps cable and my pc's running thru the same router consistently do ~4.5 mbps. I would always turn on WiFi when browsing from home under the assumption that it was the fastest mode available. Now I'm worried that it's "broken" :)
Second, I'm surprised that 3G is ~15x faster than EDGE. Why did I wait so long to upgrade from my 8900 to the 9700? Has anybody else done this? What were your results?
TIA...

Sounds like your 2G connection is iffy, but 1.6Mbits is well within expected 3G data throughput levels.
But yes, the speed difference between 2G and 3G tends to be dramatic. The only things stopping me from using my Bold are the lower-resolution screen and the broken USB port. Feh.
Never going to upgrade, and not interested in paying $600 for a 9700... so I wait for one to roll along with a broken screen or something, and fix it like I did with my 9000. Well, the USB port was a recent development, and had been listed as a possible issue before I got it.
