I have a 9810. I love the bigger screen, better camera, and physical keyboard. I do, however, wonder if I would like the BOLD 9900 better... But, i am not about to pay full price...

My wife just went from an iPhone 4s to a 9810 and she loves the 9810. I have offered her a spare 9900, but she seems to like the smaller physical size of the 9810, plus the bigger screen on the 9810.

She was on Bell and she just got fed up with the problems sending email on a cable company hosted email account. It was hit and miss and it seemed to fail when she really needed it. The problem was related to smtp servers. Apple's answer was the cable company should change their email system to suit Apple. The same email works fine and reliably on the BlackBerry.

If you have a choice based on your carrier and can deal with the smaller keyboard of the 9810, I'd recommend it. My only knocks on the 9900 are the lack of autofocus camer and the smaller battery. Since the 9900, 9810, and 9860 all have the same batteries, this isn't a consideration.

I also like the 9810 better than the 9860 because you have the option of a keyboard (and thus all of the cool BB keyboard shortcuts).

So if you don't mind the slider form factor, with the 9810, you get autofocus, a keyboard, a larger screen, NFC, and all of the additional benefits of BB7. If you can find a good deal on one that doesn't bind you to a 2-year agreement, you can enjoy it knowing that when BB10 comes out, you can use your contract eligibility to upgrade that to BB10.

This way, you get to enjoy BB7 without much compromise in features (if you consider the smaller keyboard a compromise), while waiting out the emergance of BB10.

    I prefere the 9900.

direct access to the **best keyboard** and it should be 30g less weight compared to the 9810 (assuming the 9810 still weight around the 9800) with its 130g.

there is not ***the best*** but only "the best compromise for your needs"

I had (have) both, but the 9810 is back in its box. Just love the 9900's keyboard too much. And the display isn't that much smaller than the 9810. But...if there's one thing I'm a little disappointed with on the 9900, it's the camera. If you're big on taking pics with your phone, the 9810's is measurably better. But I'm not a big picture-taker, so it's a very minor issue to me. The internal specs are about the same except for the display size, and the 9810 is still a very nice phone; but I find the 9900 to be infinitely more comfortable to use.

When i made my purchase, i didnt bother to get a hands on experience with the 9900 and went for the torch because both the phones had the same specs and torch had a larger screen. But later when i did get to check bold out, i wished that i had bought that instead because keyboard on it was so much better. Also i feel that the bold has a better build quality than torch does. The slider on the 9810 starts to wobble after sometime and also the chrome near the screen starts to wear off.

But it obviously comes down to what you like better. To be honest i like both the phones a lot and its quite possible that if i had bought the bold, i'd be singing praises for the torch

Almost all of this is true.... But I have both the 9900 and 9810 and can tell you that they have different batteries and that the 9810 does NOT have NFC. For me, the 9810 lasts longer than the 9900. NFC isn't a big deal for me because I don't use it, but the pictures taken on the 9810 are better when it comes to zooming in. The keyboard on the 9810 is narrower and doesn't feel as full as the one on the 9810 but it is still really good and I can type just as quickly and as easily.

The 9810 has a great screen for browsing and really useful on screen shortcuts that the 9900 doesn't have because the screen isn't nearly as big. It is a shame RIM doesn't market the 9810 at all, and only seems to push the Bold, because the Torch is really a nice phone.

I have both devices and I have to say I really love the 9810, but it lacks in functionality against the 9900. The NFC capabilities is huge for me which is currently available for the 9900 but not for the 9810. You get more memory on the 9900 than you get on the 9810. But the bigger screen on the 9810 plus the keyboard are the true selling points on that device. My $0.02 I hope this helps with your decision.
Have a great day! And Welcome back!

I think i will go with torch. i like the idea of typing on keypad or screen. Plus i remember when had the old Blackberry like the bold. If i got one of those answering machines where i had to "spell" there name I was screwed.

I was a user of the Torch 9800 and luved the build/form factor and really thought that is the only type of phone I would ever want. Slider keyboard+decent sized touchscreen+trackpad. I know the 9800 was a bit underpowered even when it launched compared to other phones going for the same price around the same time, but I enjoyed it.

I was totally sold on the 9810 and pretty much already had my mind made up to upgrade to it, until I saw a guy at work using a Bold 9900. He let me hold it and I fell in luv! I got a Bold 9900 and it is far and away the best keyboard I have ever used on any phone, I think the light weight yet sturdy build is perfect, and I really hope eventually there is a BB10 device built exactly like it!

Bold 9900 for me, best phone I have ever used...

It really depends on the way you intend to use it. The Torch line of phones really is more multimedia focused whereas the 99XX is a work centred phone.

If you watch a lot of videos or take photos the 9810 is your phone, if the keyboard is most important, then the 9900 is best.

Actually there is a shortcut for typing names in an automated company phonebook (alt+letter, I believe).

The screen on the Bold is certainly not as "tall" as the Torch. However unless I am mistaken it is wider. So you are not losing as much screen as it would seem for browsing since there is less text wrapping on the Bold. Unless... You like using the Torch in landscape mode. I have a Bold and a Torch 9850. (Yes I know you are talking about the 9810). And to be honest I just prefer using the phone in one orientation and not constantly flipping the phone.

Another oddity about the Torches is the placement of the trackpad along the bottom messes up the "balance" of the device, for me.

    To each their own.

The torch is a really good phone that you will have a tough time breaking. Works great and just a solid phone. As far as design and user experience the bold is sweet!

LOL I think that goes for every Blackberry. I have dropped all of mine several times and they all worked great for the entire time I owned them. My current 9860 which is the one I was most worried about dropping, has proven especially resilient.

Bare in mind there will be a lot of NFC connected accessories, I've just experienced it today for the first time with the new music gateway, tap and bang, you're connected. NFC future is bright if a little slow to get there but I love it.

High school kids all want blackberries both kids wanted BBM over an iPhone. RIM should work this in ads
