Well folks I know this is an old thread but wanted to mention that my SP3 did a firmware update today, and the first thing I tried was connecting my Passport via USB and BANG! It connected. Blend did as well!

I haven't tried running through a full backup yet, but this is definitely an improvement.

    Hi alltogether,

I had the same problem (Win10, SP3, BB Q10) and just found a solution for me. I disabled the "Connected Standby" on my SP3. Link is doing a backup right now.

    1. Start the registry editor (regedit.exe) as administrator
    2. Move to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Power.
    3. Double-click CsEnabled and set to 0, then click OK.

I just made an account to tell you this so I am not allowed to post a link. But you can find infos on what Connected Standby is easily with google. I think I won't miss it.

I recently got a SP3. Blend works great, but I've been getting pretty frustrated that link doesn't recognize my device. Actually, I should say the SP3 doesn't recognize my device. When I connect it with the USB, my phone charges, but the SP3 hasn't downloaded the drivers, and only recognized my device over the wifi network. I noticed the issue when I was trying to get Snap side loaded on my Classic. The SP3 just doesn't recognize that the Classic is connected't move the bar file to my phone over the usb. There's got to be some way to work around this. SP3 on windows 8.1 pro. Classic on 10.3.2.

The only thing I've found so far is this thread on a windows forum.

SP3 Win8.1 and Blackberry Link 1.2.4.39 not working properly | Microsoft Surface Forums

I don't fully understand the solution though. It appears you have to disable "connected standby" on the SP3 but I'm not very sure. Does this make sense to anyone here?

Can you just go into advanced power options, USB and disable all sleeping for USB?
