Any help would be appreciated. My mum gave me this phone, and I need it on prepaid as I can't afford the deposit for a contract.

Unless it's branded by Boost you probably won't get it activated on Sprint's various prepaid offerings. If I were you I would save up $100 & get a Curve 9310 on Boost @ $50 per month. The 9310 is a much better phone than the 8530.

Ask your friends if any of them are on Sprint and they might be interested in buying the phone.

This would be your best bet. Its about the cheapest you're gonna find for a new BlackBerry on BIS and enjoy the BB experience.

I took a Sprint 8530 to a dealer who could flash it to Verizon and I'm using PagePlus. PP has a $80 / year PIN (through kittywireless) that ends up costing me 4cents per minute and 5cents per SMS text.
