SPAM on your BB: Trooper Typing

:: starts biting his nails incontrollably, fearing his BB is gunna go crazy::06-29-08 01:56 PMLike 0 - I kinda sit in the middle on this. I know it is not a PC but some of the user treat it like it is. I am not one who likes things been forced on me, I would be the first to call the SP to get it straightened out. Have you tried talking with the SP yet?06-29-08 01:57 PMLike 0
- Know what I really hate? I really hate having to work my fingers to a bone only to get my paycheck and see FICA got more money than me. Who is this FICA cat and and where can I find him so I can get my money back?06-29-08 02:36 PMLike 0

- Its not the fact that its a stupid little icon. Its that it was pushed to my phone. I get pissed when I get stupid forward, and those are from friends and I can DELETE THEM. Wait till they start pushing all sorts of ******** stuff to our phones and then say, it's only 32 icons. Just hide them.06-29-08 04:43 PMLike 0
- Well I guess the only other recourse is to pay the early temination fee and get rid of your phone.
As far as I know all cell carriers has icons that they "push" to the phones under their service.06-29-08 04:48 PMLike 0 - To Schagg and fonebrkr:
First off, these wonderful people merely told you their solutions. it was you who got irate and started the arguments. If you have NO control over it, then why worry about it? YOU paid VZW for the phone and the contract did you not? And DSL is very different from a cell phone service. And 9 times out of 10, your pc does have unknown software on it from companies that you dont know/want on there. But bc they don't take up memory, or charge you for it, you never know about it (I am a Certified PC Tech and can verify this). If this icon was already hidden, but still on the BB, you would never even know it existed until u click "Show All".
So instead of arguing a useless fact that phone companies CAN do this sort of thing, why not just accept the fact that u can't change a fact of [cell phone] life and just move on? All of the people that have replied to u have just been trying to help by telling u their solutions. It's as simple as that.
To everyone else: Though I have never had this specific problem, I thank you for your answers. If I ever have this problem, at least I know what I can and can't do.06-29-08 05:13 PMLike 0 - It may not be anything to worry about. At the same time, I dont recall anyone that has the icon, mentioning in this thread anything about being informed of it prior to it appearing out of the blue.
People are telling each other to get over it, because thats what they have done. Ultimately, the ones that have an issue with it will come to grips with it; apparently they've no other choice. But the way it's being told to "get over it" has been simply horrible. Some of you leave comments to others as though they're your children that must obey you because you said so!06-30-08 01:41 AMLike 0 - Scandalex, most of the asshats flaming in this thread don't have vzw or a pearl, it's a sad trend that there's a group of folk on here that flame away at most every post, whether it concerns them or not. It's no wonder that most of the original members of this site no longer post, which is why I came here in the first place.
I talked to a vzw data specialist and a RIM tech today, this was actually part of the 2.5 roll out. They also added a password delete button about a week ago to the cache clear. Vzw was prepared for problems with 2.5 rolling out, instead they heard about trooper typing, which they expect to provision out of the service books in the near future.
It seems there were a bunch of subscribers that didn't approve of the Teeny tiny icon loaded on their berries
Peace out. .
Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com06-30-08 02:16 AMLike 0 - Guess I will have to go to my local rep and ask what my contract / policy is on solications on software via a carrier. If there is no such policy in the contract then VZW is in breach of contract to the buyer/owner of such device - which screams "class action lawsuit".06-30-08 02:58 AMLike 0
- This thread had me rolling...

Simply hide the icon. It is not spam and
since it is not an installed app, it's not using
much memory.
Since there was a service book with it,
deleting it won't really help as it will return
any time you resend your SB's or if VZW
And then this...

now that everything is back to normal, i went back into Options --> Advanced Options --> Browser Push, and disabled WAP Push applications. hopefully this keeps this annoying spam off my pearl!06-30-08 12:46 PMLike 0 - Well I mean (rant on) with everything going on in the world - people dying, disease, war, famine, the fact that a stupid little tiny icon on a BlackBerry desktop is ZOMGWTFBBQ!!!!111!!!!!eleventy!!!1111 THE END OF THE FLIPPIN' WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORLD is so stupid. I wish all I had to be upset or concerned about was a goddamned icon. (rant off)06-30-08 12:47 PMLike 0
- Okay, people.
Here is the run down:
Called Verizon Data Support and talked to a tech who does not want me to publish his name on the forums. But, after I guided him to this forum - he was very shocked that this is happening and is in the process of contacting his department head and sending emails to higher ups to look into this issue on the forum.
He also wanted me to tell everyone please bare with them as they are looking into the situation. From what he was saying, it seems that someone hacked into the service book from blackberry to solicate their software to the Verizon and T-Mobile networks and possibly other CDMA networks as well. Anyone who installs the Trooper Typing Software might release information of contacts and other personal information. It has been advised by Verizon to "NOT" install Trooper Typing. They are now in the process of finding out the cause of the problem. If anyone else wants to call Verizon and talk to Data Support, guide them to this forum and have Verizon seriously look into this problem - please do so, I was able to do it... and the more techs we have looking into the crackberry forums the better off we will be.06-30-08 05:48 PMLike 0 - Okay, people.

How proud are you to make a cust service rep cry at that. Put your crackberry down for a second and do something more productive like jump off a bridge.06-30-08 05:54 PMLike 0

You guys got. So worked up you even took the lord's name in vain.
Once again I have to ask, why?
Why so worked up?
And what you just quoted up there isn't name calling and it's also not the first time it's been brought up.
Peace out bra
Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com06-30-08 07:07 PMLike 0 - amazinglygracelessRetired ModBrudda, once again we'll have to agree to disagree, I watched for 2 days while you and a few others flamed a bunch of folk with a problem you never had in the first place, maybe I just don't know you're definition of flaming?

I was just trying to help. Nothing in any of my posts
in this thread can even be remotely construed as a flame.
As to the lord's name, that is between your God and you,
my God and me. But I'm cool with where I stand with mine.
Lighten up a bit. It was meant to be helpful. Sorry you
took it the wrong way. ...but really an icon, and 3 bytes and 5 pages? ...06-30-08 07:17 PMLike 0 - Oh boy! Now Spamming cellphones for software or adverts?
Well, that is what happened to a number of people from the CDMA side for providers. It seems that RIM and BlackBerry pushing the 2.5 BIS browser upgrade also included a software within the upgrade called "trooper typing". Customers were confused, worried and upset that a provider would allow such action. So, customers called and complained that they had received a strange icon on their BlackBerry Pearl 8130's. Keep in mind that this device does not have much internal memory as it is and customers did not like being "Spammed or Pushed" slammed with software they never downloaded.
So, now the provision to have the Trooper Typing removed from the Service Book is in progress. Customers are requested to do a battery pull within 2-3 days and refresh their service book. If the icon remains on their home screen to wait another 2-3 days and repeat the process. If the customer still has the icon on their homepage after 14 days call your local provider and ask to speak to Data Support.06-30-08 08:24 PMLike 0 -
