Why don't any phones have little battery charging solar panels like calculators do? It would be genius

Note size of battery in a calculator. Note size of battery in phone. Note power consumption of lcd screen, powerful processors, OS, and the myriad of things a cell phone can do that a calculator can't. Lastly note how long one keeps their phone in the sun. Sticking a solar charger to the thing is like blowing as hard as your lungs will allow at a wind generator in hopes it will turn on your fridge. There are solar charges for portable devices but they are not small enough.

I can say without any shadow of doubt that... well I don't know and won't pretend to.

Cost / benefit ratio is probably too poor.

I'm sure one day in the future when technology advances far enough we can collect solar power efficiently enough to do the job in a small enough package. It could become a popular thing. But newer battery technology will come much sooner than this making the idea obsolete eventually.

It wouldn't be to supply all the power of the battery but just to keep the phone going longer between charges. These "R" series phones don't have huge screens and already look like crap. Adding 2 or 3 extra hours to the battery life wouldn't be bad. Expecially for free
