I use Google sync but I don't know if it can input that many. I input about 85 contacts
the first time I used Google sync.

Then use Outlook Express. It is free.

    Does thunder Bird work?
I too use outlook which is awesome, CardScan does a good job as well, but I normally import into Outlook from CardScan first.

Thunder Bird would probably be your best free option for a desktop

you can do it just fine in Outlook. you sync the phone to outlook and it is transferred to your phone. My wife prefers that method then typing things in on the phone. I am kinda perplexed by the amount of people who have a bb smartphone and are unaware you can sync with outlook and or back up your device data. I have had 3 friends send me a new pin because device failed and had to reload all their data again and asking for all phone numbers again. Kinda weird.

If all you are looking for is Names and numbers, then you can use any of the methods discussed.

Outlook, Outlook Express (or Windows Live Mail on Vista), Google, Yahoo, ASCII file

Yes. As long as it is a compatible version of Outlook. Using BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
