Me too. Treo 600, 650, and Centro user. Finally needed a World phone on Sprint and the 8830 was the best phone that fit the bill and had to leave Palm, who was focusing on Windows Mobile OS while finishing WebOS. WebOS came out shortly after and while it looked awesome, the hardware they put it on wasn't good. Now here I am on BlackBerry, a company that too waited too long to transition, is lost, and it's time to move on again. I probably should have left on principle after the PlayBook debacle, but thought they had something with BB10 and would put the effort in. If only BlackBerry had been able to close that deal to buy Palm and not lost it last minute to HP and get WebOS they would have been in the game early enough to be relevant with a complete product. Oh well no one can say I didn't give BlackBerry a lot of rope and tough it out for a while, but with Chen I know that BlackBerry has never been less customer oriented than they are now.

Same here. I was a big fan of palm, even the devices that were not phones. The one I miss the most is the Sony clie peg ux-50... it really was something special in its time

Android is an information gathering tool for Google, not just a mobile OS. Everything about it is designed to violate your privacy from app permissions on down the line.

Chen thinking that this can 1. Somehow be adequately secured and 2. Is somehow a path forward for a company that built it's reputation on secure communications is proof that some people rise above their ability.

The Priv will be a failure. Blackberry will be out of the handset business by this time in 2017.

Okay let's say they didn't go Android. They were still out of the handset business selling BB10, probably even earlier. Why not try to revive it before letting it die?

Properly managed, there would be no need to exit the handset business.

    The path forward was:

    1. No android.runtime.
    2. Blend is a good idea, allowing BB10 phones to interface with other platforms.
    3. Do not cripple BlackBerry World by stripping out media.
    4. There are a few holdouts who demand a physical keyboard, release the classic for them as an upgrade path for them and as a way forward for the remaining BBOS users.
    5. For everyone else release a Flagship Z30 successor. The philosophy behind the passport was flawed.
    6. All devices should come with BBM protected out of the box.
    7. Cross platform BBM voice and video are a priority.
    8. Push BBM as a single app solution to secure communications and an alternative to Chat Secure/Silent Circle type apps.
    9. Hammer on the issues of security and privacy in all your interactions with the public.
    10. See what happens.

    1. No android.runtime. (Alienate most existing BB10 users, who use apps that need this)
    2. Blend is a good idea, allowing BB10 phones to interface with other platforms. (This is a comment, not a path.)
    3. Do not cripple BlackBerry World by stripping out media.
    4. There are a few holdouts who demand a physical keyboard, release the classic for them as an upgrade path for them and as a way forward for the remaining BBOS users. (They did this - it didn't work. There are still 20M BBOS users and only 10M BB10 users - why did no one migrate?)
    5. For everyone else release a Flagship Z30 successor. The philosophy behind the passport was flawed.
    6. All devices should come with BBM protected out of the box. (Which would cost BB yet another revenue stream, making BB10 a bigger loss.)
    7. Cross platform BBM voice and video are a priority. (Which would require a billion dollar investment in data centers and scaling up BB's network - who will pay for this?)
    8. Push BBM as a single app solution to secure communications and an alternative to Chat Secure/Silent Circle type apps. (BB has tried that, but no one is interested. BBM's usage is dropping off in developed countries.)
    9. Hammer on the issues of security and privacy in all your interactions with the public. (When has BB ever failed to do this? Where are the sales from all the people concerned about security and privacy?)
    10. See what happens. (We've already seen what happens - $8B loss in the value of the business, 800k phones sold in a quarter [680k being BB10] and the company stock trading at the value of the cash in the bank, valuing the entire business at $0)
You can't really expect anyone to take a business plan seriously when you write "see what happens", can you? Really?

I stopped reading after the first one. If the path forward was an ecosystem crippled by a lack of applications we wouldn't be having this discussion. That's one aspect, among others, BB10 more than excelled at.

Now if they had come out from the word go with at least some of the most common applications, Netflix, Instagram, etc you're point might have some validity.

BBOS10 is not a Legacy OS

BBOS 7 is old but not obsolete (not yet anyway)

Well, it's telling that BBRY figures Android is secure enough to work with.

If folks trusted them implicitly then, why not now? Probably because specific Android builds have the SAME security certs as BB10?

Just that they are similarly old and used by a minority.

Maybe? or BBRY don't care anymore and slap 'Android' on it. for the sake of sales?

    who knows.
