Can someone explain to me the difference?
I still can't figure out how to send a simple text message as I would have with my old (non-BB) phone. Ha!

SMS is short for Simple Messaging Service (or short), and is used for text messages.
MMS is short for multimedia messaging service and is used to send picture/video messages.

Ohhhh! That definitely helps. Thanks!
The differance between SMS and MMS is that SMS is text only and MMS is where you can send Images and such. If I am not mistaken it dosnt use data to send MMS where as sending images through email would use data.
I ususally use the "today" theme so the way you get to stuff might be a little different. I go and open up messages then click my blackberry button, the one just to the right of the trackball. I'll then scroll down the list till I find the "compose SMS Text", click it and then chose a a recpiant. Begin typing :) It will be the same thing for MMS.
Here the MMS cost more to send than a SMS.

Both should be covered under a TXT/PIX&FLIX plan, right?
I am guessing that it may vary by service providers. I know that with ATT I have a 200 message monthly plan (I dont text much, lol) But both are covered with-in the 200 messages. If I exceded that then I would be charged extra. Since i have never exceded that I can't verify that one costs more than the other.
A few years back when I first got my Treo, I had a conversation with a rep and even went to a verizon store to figure out why I was being charged for data usage when I would send pictures on it even though I had unlimited IN PIX/FLIX and they said it was because I was using a "smart"phone vs. "dumb"phone. With this in mind if you have that pearl and no data plan, I want to let you know that you WILL be charged for data usage per photo sent and received because the blackberries are considered smartphones.
Doesn't the rate differ in overage charges? I can't remember but I thought with ATT an sms in overage was 5 cents and MMS was 25....i dunno....I have unlimited so :D
Both are covered if you have a text, pix, flix plan yes.
I like to use mms when messaging people that do not have email on there phone, if I need to send a long text message. It lets you use 1000 characters and space as opposed to like 160 with a sms message.
sLY
If you use SMS and keep writing past the 160, it will keep going and will convert it into another form of SMS to send it all as one message. I don't recall the name of the "other form" of SMS, but I believe it has enhanced in there somewhere.
Every 160 characters count as 1 message. If you send a text with 321 characters, that's three messages. (160 + 160 + 1 = 321)
I am not saying it doesn't count as 3, but it will show up to the person on the receiving end as 1.
It still shows the D and not the R...so I do not think the recipient has read it yet. Thanks!
Yes, both are cover.
yup. they definitely are both covered if you have an unlimited plan. just think of mms as a simple pix/flix message, and sms as a simple txt message.
