I tried to come up with analogy to have a bit of fun and prompt some colourful discussion. I didn't realize that Forums on CrackBerry were so serious and I needed to cite every reference and use footnotes. It's "CRACKBERRY" people!!!!! This entire site is based on the analogy of BlackBerrys being like Crack they are so addictive......why don't we tear that apart a bit.

Profit margin on crack is much higher than BlackBerry so it's not a good comparison.

Crack is in high demand, not BlackBerry!

'Murica loves it's Crack, but hates BlackBerry!

Crack is a division of "Cocaine Inc." and they don't have to rely on Crack to make all their profit, they have other money making ventures, unlike BlackBerry...

Am I getting better at the proper forum banter now you miserable users who only like to berate others???

It wasn't meant to be literal. I picked Porsche out of thin air, mostly because of partnership with BB, not because I researched their business model. I could have just as easily compared BlackBerry to......fast food or sports teams or whatever.

I like to be different. Guess that's why BB suits me!

There is more than enough room in the smartphone market for many brands and premium devices. My feeling is that BlackBerry is now like a premium car, like a Porsche. Fitting that we have Porsche designed models of BlackBerrys!

We don't need every family to own one. They need to find their market and stick to it. I don't want the Chevy Cavalier of phones (iPhone). I want to stand out, be different, be premium. Keep the prices up, make great products, target Enterprise, target "Prosumers", make me work to get my device, like I do to get my nice vehicle.

I have a sense of pride being a BlackBerry guy! and in the same way that I don't want to pull into the parking lot at the mall and see half the lot filled with the exact same car I drive, I don't want everyone to have the best mobile device in the world, BLACKBERRY.

I say downscale and make the brand more premium, make higher end devices and price them accordingly. I WANT to pay more if I get a better experience. The problem is that we live in a society where everyone wants their inexpensive or free vehicle to drive and handle like my "Porsche".....or.......they think they should get to own a "Porsche" for the price of their Kia. That "Kia" comes in more colours and has more whistles and bells and useless crap than the pure driving machines, if that's what you're into.

That's my analogy and I think it's accurate!

That last sentence above may have caused some of the response held in disdain as described in the post below. If you type it, they will answer.

Too each their own, but for me personally, I wouldn't buy an Apple parachute if I was thrown out of a plane at 10,000 feet.
Heh. I guess you'd buy the BlackBerry parachute. It doesn't have a ripcord app, but one should be arriving "soon."

needs a battery pull before use too haha.

In answer to the car question, Porsche are financially profitable, so its not a good comparison, Saab however....

Porsche actually know how to play the system too, when they designed the cayenne off roader, instead of it costing them money, they funnelled their R+D through that and caught a tax break on it, so if it went sideways it wouldn't really of cost them anything financially, however now its proving very successful for them and profitable.

I would like blackberry to be sold as a specialist phone like oldschool OS7 ones (obviously with more modern advances though) but at this stage I don't think blackberry is going to exist for much longer.

You got the reaction you did because it was a poor analogy

It wasn't meant to be literal
Possibly a little late for that disclaimer.

    Heat, kitchen.
    1) Whether it was poor or not is subjective

    2) Late or not it's a fact which I assumed people could figure out, apparently not. It appears that I need to "literally" be literal in my meanings. Guess if I said "I don't think your elevator goes all the way to the top floor" you'd point out that you live in a bungalow and obviously I'm an ***** for assuming you lived in a building with an elevator.

3)Didn't realize I was in a kitchen..... guess I should sharpen my knives and get ready to cook then! (again this is not literal....it's a metaphor, heavily dosed with sarcasm and a sprinkling of smart-assed-ness :P)

What a ridiculous thread. People are relying on apps, people aren't willing to be premium buyers (as most buyers of iPhones get it subsidized stateside), and the general public doesn't care about being shackled to an ecosystem. Yes there are people who love to tinker and for them they jailbreak or customize the hell out of Android. Those aren't the general public. They aren't the soccer moms or construction guy who wants a smartphone. They just want to get to it. Most people I know with Android devices don't tinker with anything.

Porsche isn't losing money, Porsche isn't for sale and Porsche isn't going anywhere. Blackberry is failing. Blackberry may not even exist 5 years down the road. They made mistakes. I've used a Z10 recently. I liked it. It felt nice in my hands. Solid build. But nothing there said you need to move from iOS.

In the OP's defense, people that don't get it don't get that they don't get it. The reason we got that awful analogy in the first place is the same reason OP keeps defending it; he doesn't see the problems, even after the many explanations.

No, it isn't a particularly good analogy in any way. Porsche makes money on their sales. That is the salient factor, not units.

Unfortunately, no. It's only subjective to people who believe there's no absolute standard of behaviour.

    Unsurprisingly, another poor analogy.

My last post here. I get the impression that you won't stop.
