I have a Blackberry Bold 9000. I have had it for about a year but I got it without a contract, well my previous contract is now up and was wondering if I should upgrade or wait for better models to come out. My most important need is speed.
Bold 9700 or Storm2, which are among the most powerful BlackBerry smartphones to date (basing completely on raw processing speed), are not going to give you anything more than what you can already have with the Bold 9000. Your BlackBerry is very powerful and if your only concern is speed, don't upgrade just yet. I don't know how much it will take for a better / faster device to come out, but you are in good hands now. Stick to your Bold 9000, that's my advice.
Yeah, I agree...hold tight for now. I am due for an upgrade also but I'm holding on until these new phones surface that everyone is talking about with the web browser kit.
@FuzzyB: Webkit browser. It will (hopefully) come as an update to all current devices running OS 5.0, not specific to newer hardware. What is rumored to come out is the hybrid touch screen + QWERTY keyboard BlackBerry. Might be interesting to see what it'll be like when/if it comes out.
My vote goes with the hold on to see what is coming in 2010. Who knows? My 9000 can be replaced any time at my choice, but for now I am going nowhere. The 9700 has fine functions but is too small for my tastes. Maybe later a 9000 size device with 9700 functions will arrive. Until then the 9000 is a pure workhorse and a joy to own.
Hold out for now and save your upgrade for the next gen blackberry. 9700 is a very nice phone and is the best blackberry to date but its still a last gen device cuz it has old components from the old blackberries. Plus no opengl which is why I am sticking with the now "discontinued" 8900.
