I have replacement insurance for a Blackberry Bold 9700 (I know. Old. But I love the phone). My plan is offering me as a comparable a Q10. Should I take this? Is it in any way comparable to the Bold 9700?

You can't compare the 9700 to a Q10, you just can't. Other than the fact they both have a physical keyboard, the Q10 is another beast. The OS is different and way better/faster (in my opinion, though some die-hard BBOS fans might disagree).

I still have my Bold 9700, loved the phone, but there's no way I'd take it over the Q10.

Die-hard BBOS fans may disagree, but that doesn't mean they're right.

Logically speaking, BlackBerry 10 is a more advanced OS with more features and a lot more potential, then there's also the average of the specs of every BlackBerry 10 device.

Make the move to the Q10. I went from a Bold 9900 Touch to the Q10. The 9900 has a keyboard that's closer to the Q10 than your 9700, so get ready for more width, a faster typing experience, a quicker OS and a gesture-based operating system. It took me 2-3 days to get the hang of it, but after a week I'd never go back. You'll love the browser speed and the feel of a modern OS.

Get a classic why don't you, can't you persuade them? But if you can't get the q 10 it's newer at least and it's BlackBerry 10.

I think the 9700 is the best BlackBerry of all time when you consider them all in the context of the time they were released. Its the last BB I can say was hands down the best phone available at the time.

All that being said, stop being silly and get the Q10. Step into 2013.

For the simple things like calendar, adding contacts, messaging, typing out an email, etc. 9700 or any BBOS device 6 and up for that matter is hands down faster than any BB10 device.

There is no arguing that BBOS is better in that field. But when it comes to multimedia the 10 devices are better, so as an overall phone the Q10 is better but if I were just typing out emails and stuff I would get the q10, sell it and buy a 9700 with some cash on the side.

I have a classic and I miss so many things from my 9900

Get a 9700 if you're into retro stuff or nostalgia. Otherwise, you're better off with a Q10 or the Classic.

We can't blame you for wanting the spinning hourglass and the frequent battery pulls. Get the 9700.

I had the 9700 and loved it, but Q10 is light-years better. The browser alone is worth the upgrade.

9700 if you wear skinny jeans and enjoy things "ironically".

    Q10 otherwise.

9700 would a nostalgic thing for me if I were to purchase one. I could never use one as a daily driver. They're simply too slow and too under powered for what I need to use the phone for today. Q10 is the way to go. You'll miss the trackpad as I still do but you'll get used to it given its a touchscreen. Then again, you could always get the classic instead. Good luck!

Get a Classic. It's a Q10 - but with a bigger, nicer screen, Trackpad/tool belt that you're already used to, and long battery (although not removable). That extra 15% or so screen size makes a big difference.

If size matters (pocketability), get the Q10, otherwise the Classic is the closest thing you can get... :-)

I upgraded from a 9700 to a Z10. The 9700 was a great phone for its day but that day is long gone. Small screen and impossibly slow browser. BB10 is so superior. Since you want a keyboard you should be trilled with the Q or the Classic.

is the 9700 for work? If it is, make sure that the q10 would be alright to use with IT.

Remember, these 2 phones have different operating systems and you need time to get acclimated.

When I switched from a bold to a Z10 it took a few hours but once I got familiar with the Z, I had no more issues learning the OS.

Try out the Q first if you can before you decide.

    I honestly can't even imagine using a 2009 phone 2015.

For that reason, I can't fathom recommending the 9700.

Even if you like the OS better, how could 2009 hardware (which was already outdated in 2009) allow you to experience even a fraction of what's available on the internet? You'd be missing out on basically everything.

On the other hand, there are probably still people out there that swear by their Motorola Razr flip phones as being capable of doing everything they need.

    To each their own.

I would get a Q10, simply because BlackBerry is probably getting close to pulling the plug on BIS and a Q10 will lose no functionality when they do.

Old_Mil: I'm a newb, so can you explain what you mean and why (+how) the Q10 (my current device) differs from a Classic or PP with respect to BIS? To be clear, I don't mean the differences between the phones themselves, but the functionality you mentioned.

The classic has the toolbelt, pp has a focus on performance and unique styling.

Q 10 is just that, a BlackBerry 10 device that is still a good device.
