I don't understand Frank boulben or his marketing strategy. BlackBerry has 3 billion $ cash. Put 600 million $ into worldwide marketing. You must get brand recognition that will drive sales up. Only a few ppl know about BlackBerry 10. In the longterm you will earn more money from sales. A smaller company like HTC will spend from now on 1 billion $ with Robert Downey Jr and what do blackberry? Nothing. The people doesn't care about best OS or so on. They buy things that they hear and see. Ppl are easy to convince when the marketing is right

If people know there are new phones than he did his job. The fact they suck and people dont want them isnt his fault.

No. I don't agree that is him doing his job in the slightest.

Marketing alone can't improve the market share. Not to say that it can't be better. However, BlackBerry pricing is a bigger problem. I have a feeling that BlackBerry current hardware cost doesn't allow them to price their devices competitively. So perhaps, they should also look at their hardware business.

I'd like to see someone such as yourself suddenly be offered a Be Franks Replacement for a Month job and then we'll talk about who doesn't get it.

Bring it on! Can't wait. If I fail like the marketing crew they have now, I would gladly admit I did not connect with the general public and pass the torch to someone who does. So, when do I start?

They need a young successful brand marketing chief not an old guy from France who doesn't even understand US customer...don't know why they hired him.

They have free marketing in social media with over 28 million fans on Facebook and they're doing a terrible job at marketing the BlackBerry 10 lineup. A complete waste of getting to their core user group and gaining more.

Nobody would miss Monsieur Frank "French roll" Boulben if his father would have used a Pariser* for his french stick... (*in Germany "Pariser" is a synonymic for "condom") ;-) He would have saved his nasaly son the blushes of the worst marketing strategy ever.... He would ruin even a french fries stall...

How many ads has BlackBerry run in the last four years (just picking a number.) What about Apple? Frank Boulben has been with BlackBerry for some time and what exactly does he professionally speaking have to show for it? Sorry, I thought the purpose of marketing was to promote, was to craft an image and affect brand name perception. If any of this is a true facet of the job, the guy appears to me to be nearly useless on all fronts. I bet he has great uses for that fat income he gets though.

Be it a poor or godhand product, it should still be a CMO's job to do "something" for the brand name itself. I have seen nearly zero promotion over the years.

To Frank's credit, one of the ads that ran before his tenure was the dreaded PlayBook "Flash" commercial. So he had some big shoes to fill to come up with something equally as bad.

I think it is pure folly to assume that a massive marketing blitz would have changed the big picture.

It starts with a compelling product.

The Z10 was compelling enough out of the gate. Their biggest mistake was the 2 months it took to get it to the US market. They had nothing to market during that time frame. Most of the momentum was lost.

Not releasing the Q10 at the same time didn't help.

I'll tell anyone who listen: on its own, it was fine. The problem is, smartphones quit being standalone devices a long time ago. As overall communication/work tools, they seem to come up short for a good deal of people.

Yes, in my view, Boulben as CMO, should have been fired right after the disastrous US launch.
